Eddie, I checked the link and read much of the info... so, is there something we need to know furthur[?], as you didn't say anything more above, beyond the link.
I've read several reviews of this film recently, and most are trashing it (except the Houston Chronicle, giving it 3 stars). USA Today really hated it. Interesting, three of the negative reviews [Time, Houston Press, and The Christian Science Monitor] all make a comment about how the title should have been "Pirates of the Carribean: AT WHIT'S END"[!], or to give this title to a possible 4th installment :-))
Also, Part 3 is the longest yet, 2 hours and 48 minutes
-Love Hendrix!

The critics can bash it as much as they want.
It's not trying to be a birgman, nor a fellini. If they stepped in the theater expecting that, they're in the wrong industry.
The movie is your summer burger. Unlike the usual "plastic" that goes out around summertime, this one reminds a traditional, home baked one.
It's a ride. A long ride, yes. But a fun one, all the way through.
a small parting thought: for the small wheels to turn (your average hand-held art house feature being released or even better produced by one of the majors) the big ones need to turn first, and this one, is one of the biggest.
I hope people realize that and the way things work, and avoid skipping a movie because "too many people like it, it's too commercial, everyone else is stupid, we are smart" .
Unplug for a while, step out your cerebral world, and take a break. you need it from time to time.

H&G TV this morning had a LONG spot for "Pirates" advertised as "On DISNEY Blu-Ray" with all kind of interactive features, game playing, yada yada... Really, the ad seems to appeal to kids rather the to adults. Certainly, it is aimed at the PS3 camp, but it's a little odd to run it on H&G TV which has a more mature audience although I'm certain its appearing in other cable outlets. They are clearly hoping that "Pirates" will be the back breaker of HD DVD which I don't think will happen. They will sell the usual kazillion in the beginning and then sales will trail off a month from now, just as it has with other disks on both formats. But for that period of time, the BD fanboys will be going nuts on the blogs.
On another note, we had an engagement party for my daughter at my house yesterday. Most of the teenagers ended up in my living room after the Sox game watching the HD DVD of "Matrix Revolution." They, and several of the adults, were literally GLUED to the TV and MANY commented on the quality of the picture and the SOUND. Like I have said before, the format will sell itself, if only people are exposed to it properly. Afterward, I had a long conversation with one of my rich cousins and I'm pretty sure he is going out to buy a player today.
The beat goes on. Steve

Are you saying that if you had a blu-ray player as the center of your setup nobody would comment the audio or video?

given john's review, i think that the blu-ray release of "pirates 3" should be accompanied by a firmware upgrade to blu-ray players that allows the viewer to use an optional butt massager that extends from the machines.

In fairness, the friend I went to see it with loved the movie and had no problem with its length. But I might need that butt massager when the SD disc shows up for review, and I watch it again.

I saw it yesterday with my daughter. I was attracted to see the digital projection show in my local theatre (can't say I could tell any difference). Let's set the record strait, the trashing reviews are correct. The movie stinks! My daughter and I both admitted to almost falling asleep a couple times. Why? The damn movie was so freaking boring! The main action was never apparent until the last 20-minutes of the show and the rest of it is a bunch of pointless dialog. And what was with the plot? It certainly didn't feel like any continuation from the last film, and with all the plot changes, which were a nightmare to follow, the story turned out to be something totally different.
There were moments when it tried to be too serious for its own good and times it was too silly (as in Disney corney). The dialog went on for an eternity but it wasn't enough for any actor to save the sinking ship. And on the note, let's just say the performances may have worn out their welcome. Much like last summer's "Miami Vice", the movie was so taxing on the attention span that by the time the action arrived I could have cared less as I was ready to leave. And no, I didn't wait for any extra footage after the credits because I was literally that bored.
I won't say I hated it, as I do like the other two, but I was majorly dissapointed. And the possibility of a Pirates 4? Please Disney, put a sock in it! Even the Devil lost because of too much pride, so take a hint!

I couldn't agree more Tim.
I realize Pirates are backstabbers, but it seemed as if characters were trading, switching sides, or double crossing every other scene.
And what was the point in building up the calypso story if there wasn't going to be any resolution or even a mention if it after she went giganto.
Orlando Bloom is known for his wooden acting, but Keira Knightley made him look like the second coming of Brando.

keira is basically a boy. it's appropriate that she became the pirate king (instead of the pirate queen).

Hey S Coaster, maybe he was trying to hint that the hd player was the only financial option for him at the time. He did mention a rich friend that he talked to about an hd player. Let's face it. Blu-Ray players are just too expensive for the average family man right now or anyone trying to live off of a reasonable middle class budget. Let's suppose you had a daughter getting married, car note, house note, trying to raise another child possibly, trying to pay for your children's college tuition, medical bills, etc. And you want a blu-ray player. Right now your only cheap option is a ps3. $600 + $50 tax +$50 to $60 for a warranty. And you haven't even bought a movie yet. $700 is alot of money for someone trying to live on a budget who doesn't live by themselves or can't afford to put everything on a credit card. You basically have to go into debt just to get a blu-ray player. I just wish Sony would think about this and release affordable merchandise. And yes I realize there is a cheaper blu-ray player coming about later this month. $500 +tax +warranty is still about $600. That's alot of money. If you had a daughter getting married I'm sure the last thing on your mind would be a format war anyway.

I've been saying that for the last year. The real question is how did the topic of "Pirates 3" get turned into a Blu-ray discussion? Can we stick to the topic of how crappy the movie was?
