Making a Menu on a Sony DVD recorder----anyone know how to do this?

I have tried and tried to make a menu for the series that I want to put on DVD from VHS. I have read my manual-it doesn't help----I have had 3 sessions with Sony "live chat" technicians---and they absolutely didn't know what I was taking about. I have asked others from different sites.....and was wondering if it was REALLY possible to do. I have bought many DVD's others have made---with nice little menus-but just cannot seem to grasp what is necessary. It is a great recorder---I have transferred about 300 VHS movies to DVD, but I just can't get the hang of these damn menus. Can someone tell me how to do this?
