I'm seeing this pop up on certain DVDs now. For example, on Amazon they show the 25th anniversary for the Dark Crystal as being region 99. Sure, this is all region 1. What's with the 99?

this might be sony's version of "Execute Order 66" ("Star Wars III").

At "Yahoo Answers," Timothy M. asked that very question and got this reply from Amazon:

"I asked Amazon and they said 'I am sorry to say that the Region 99 is just an error on our catalog page. This DVD is actually Region 1.'"

Or maybe it's like Area 51.
