What I find interesting (other than a dead, defeated, finished hahaa) format releasing new players at all is that at $799 this is labeled as a high end player and includes more features and functions that any BR player on the market even the ones over $1500.
I wonder if the BR folks will ever actually think they are not getting the most bang for their buck on the hardware side.
More and more I feel that the BR folks are rooting for a victory that in the end will end up biting them in the butt as pricing reductions, features and the lot hit a wall if and when HD-DVD were to actually die. I think the only thing driving quality and innovation of both sides is the existence of the other side.
Cheers,
Richard
PS. Luckily for all of us, it hardly seems likely that either side is going anywhere soon. My new mantra is let all the studios release on both formats and let the consumers decide rather than have the movers and shakers in the back room decide for us what our choices are.

I agree with you also. And hopefully the phantom Chinese HD DVD players will soon appear and give people a price point choice around Christmas time. As I said before, other then their often touted studio support and name recognition, BD offers NOTHING that HD DVD has not already delivered. BD, at this stage of the game, has NO real technical or price point advantages. Everything about that format is based on a skillfully marketed product perception. But once again, I agree: I want the two formats to continue to hammer away at each other. Competiition will eventually force prices down even further and give the consumer a REAL choice in the end. Prehaps it is time for one of the formats to drastically lower the price of their software. That move alone could have a real effect on the outcome.
