the blu-ray version WON'T have the un-rated cut, not even via seamless branching. thus, you gotta buy both the blu-ray and the sd-dvd widescreen discs to get the full experience. you could also wait for the double-dip.

I'll be getting the unrated DVD.
I was looking at a scene by scene comparison and was surprised as to how much language was changed for the PG-13 version.

From what I hear the terrible dubbing with Justin Long's character might still be intact.

its crap like that keeping me from being a dual-HD adoptor. Blu-Ray may have more studios, but they seem to really screw over the buyers.

JServo, do you really think the Blu-ray Disk Association (BDA) forced FOX to release the theatrical version instead of the unrated version of the movie?
Although I agree including two versions of the movie might have been better (I have 10 and 11 year old kiddies so having a PG version is good!), I think it's a bit disingenuous to blame the missing "unrated" version on a particular format.

Well, no sweat off my back since I don't own, or give a damn about, blu-ray.

Yeah, another bad decision by Fox (for Blu-ray fans), and many are griping about this on message boards, also Amazon etc. Both the unrated DVD and PG-13 Blu-ray received excellent reviews in the latest issue of WIDESCREEN REVIEW, for the audio/video quality, although the unrated DVD did show some "edge enhancement" at times.

Look 1,2 and 3 was all balls to the wall. They were good adult fare and cleaning it up for number 4, well they should have stuck to the original format of the movie franchise.

I was a little surprised and very delighted with the newest "Die Hard" film, considering it was the first of the series to carry a PG-13 rating rather than R. I thought it would be too watered down, but it wasn't. In fact, I didn't even notice or care about the lack of profanity. That said, I'm still looking forward to the unrated version in SD.

Skyhawk, no I didn't say BDA made anyone release it. That was Fox decision to do that, but its a scenario that happens far more in the Blu camp than the HD one. If I didnt see the format (as a whole) robbing the consumer as much as they tend to currently do, I'd really not have a problem with Blu.

I was in Wal*mat last night to get my fill of angry poor people and to pick up some last minute thanksgiving supplies. They had two versions of the unrated Die Hard 4 -- one an oober-doober collectors edition and another in full & widescreen along with a bonus DVD with extra features. For the life of me, I could not find just a single edition of the unrated version. I opted for the $22 collectors edition but here's what I found odd: it cost $14.99 for the full screen and $18.99 for the widescreen, both with the extra bonus DVD. I've seen this happen at Wal*mart before where they charge more for the widescreen -- at least where I live, they do. Since when has it been a common practice to sell the widescreen version for $3 more? It makes no sense!
I don't usually buy DVDs from Wal*mart unless it's the cheap $14 to $5 bins, and even then you have to be careful and check to see if they're widescreen. That is one pet peeve I have about K-mart style retailers and grocery vendors -- they always sell about 90% full-screen versions! And let me make it clear that Wal*mart IS NOT the lowest price in town for current releases. Most of the current releases I find in Wally-world are on the average over $22 just for SD versions. I find that odd, as well, since Wal*mart takes the stance on every day low prices!
