Hey, guys, is Vizio worth while as a brand? I'm looking for a decent LCD to put in the office without spending much when the $400 PS3 streets in November. This is hardly going to be the centerpiece for a home entertainment center, but I don't want something that is going to crapout in six months.

Well, it does have a year&#39s warranty, so you&#39re safe there. :&#41

I helped a friend recently who wanted something cheap in 35&quot &#45 40&quot range by recommending a 37&quot Vizio from Wal&#45Mart at $688. It&#39s hooked up now and looks fine, probably the best value at that price currently available.

For my money Vizio&#39s are a great deal. For brands in comparable price ranges they can&#39t be beat, not just because they&#39re picture quality is pretty comparable but because they offer things like extra HDMI ports, which is a plus if you have several devices that use HDMI and you don&#39t have a switcher.

One word of advice Don&#39t listen to the salesmen. They&#39ll always try to steer you away from Vizio&#39s because the commision on them sucks. Some of the smaller ones you don&#39t get paid on at all &#40at least not at the store I work at&#41 This is cause the mark&#45up on them isn&#39t as high as say a Sony or a Samsung.

SSSHHHH. Don&#39t tell them, Eddie. Their stormtroppers may break into the house and take back everything else Sony I have. I have an alarm hooked up to the Bravia in the living room just in case they try anything. &#40Imagine the mission: impossible theme&#41 If they even think about it, especially in the middle of football season, I&#39ll shot the mother*&#37#@*# on sight. Thanks for the honest feedback, guys.

Vizio has great price points, or &quotprice erosion&quot has some have labeled the company&#39s marketing strategy.

I&#39ve viewed some of their plasmas, and did NOT like the &quotnoisy&quot picture and poor contrast ratio [usually their models are labeled as having a native CR of 1000:1 to 1500:1, but have tested even lower in lab results]. The best plasmas easily have a native CR of 1500:1 to 3000:1 [Pioneer], and the best LCDs have a similar CR &#40especially some of the newer Sharp and JVC models&#41.

Note: the &quotdynamic&quot CRs can be higher, based on content, and your display&#39s processing of dark&#45to&#45bright images, however high dynamic CRs are temporary, and not the normal, everyday native CR stated above.

Also, most Vizio flat panels do NOT allow you to change the &quotbacklight&quot setting &#45 it&#39s FIXED! A definite dealbreaker for me. That means the image is brighter than needed, especially in a &quotdark room&quot/lights out setting, and a brighter backlight also then effects color accuracy.

Recently, I posted the following info on the AVS Forum, here is an excerpt from my post &#45

Also, beware of some of the cheaper, &quotnon brand&#45name&quot units, as there have been reports of a shorter life &#40a few years&#41 for either the whole unit, or parts that have failed to work within a year or two of purchase.

The warranties of these cheapo brands is very suspect, as for service or replacement parts. Here is a recent story concerning this...

When I compared Visio to other brands of equally comparable specifications, I felt that the Vizio was unbeatable in quality...my opinion of course. Visio is quickly becoming the leader in the LCD arena primarily because of their combined quality and affordability.

CAUTION::: DO NOT BUY VIZIO
My husband and I purchase a wide screen Visio in August 2008. For the last month we have tried to get service for our tv. We have been given the run around for a month. They say ....send emails, send pictures, send videos, all of which were returned as unable to deliver. We were informed today that they were going to replace our beautiful tv with a used one and that we would only have a 90 day warranty! DO NOT BUY VIZIO

First, did you send any images/video?
If so, did you check the byte size of the images? Some mail servers only allow a max of 5gigs total (limitation of some kind) for attachments, and if you go over the limit your mail comes back as unable to deliver.
