Falcon,

Thanks for the respect of "Mr. Puccio," but just "John" will do. Not even my old students call me "Mr. Puccio" anymore. Say, you're not an old student, are you? )

I haven't had any error message problems yet - I view this site mainly in Netscape Navigator (for Mac), and Safari (for Mac). I also used Firefox and Opera on my iMac occasionally, but like the Netscape browser the best [latest version].

Hi Henning,

Another problem to correct...

Several of the URL addresses that members post are "disappearing" off the right side margin, and unless the member uses the "URL link feature" over the text, we don't see the complete URL text [to cut/paste in a browser].

Here's an example [fake URL] with the ALBPHABET [all the way to Z] - see how much is viewable here in the text before disappearing...

http://www.dvdtown.com/-english-alphabet-here-abcdefghijklnmopqrstuvwxyz

I noticed this with Eddie's TRANSFORMERS review [the .htm is cutoff], and many other URLs posted by members recently are useless without the entire address to be shown, or the member adding the URL link feature over the address.

Hope you can fix this. At least have the address "return" to the next line with longer URLs (so nothing disappears off the right side).

Love,

I work in software development and am the the main graphics and user interface designer for the company. Therefore I am constantly having to work around browser issues on a daily basis. I have to admit the newer versions of Netscape have actually come a long way since just a few years ago. What a lot of people don't know is Netscape is actually run using either the Firefox engine or the IE engine (you can even swap between the two by selecting the tiny icon on the bottom left of the browser status bar.). Here's the other thing that many people are unaware of, Mozila -- which runs Opera and Firefox -- are all operated by Netscape. Basically, Firefox IS the old Netscape engine, obviously updated of course.

Safari has released a version for PC, but I can assure you it's buggy as hell. The one stand alone browser out there that I recommend is the Avant browser. That browser never gives me issues on builds and has been the most friendly on a developers stand point. I just wish more people would catch on to it, eventhough it has been in the top five-downloads at download.com. My wish is one browser to rule them all, but oh well, sometimes capitalism can be a bitch!

Thanks for the info Tim! Obviously you're an expert in these computer-knowledge areas [mentioned above]. I think I understood what you wrote. Man, these browsers are a pain.

I just tested this page in again - Netscape and Firefox have that fake URL I posted disappearing off the page (bad), but Safari and Opera did it correctly and kept the URL address uniform, going to the next line.

What a bummer for my Netscape browser (latest version for iMac), as I really like it. But I'll take your advice and get that other browser you recommended - surely they have a Mac version?

Still, dvdtown members should learn to use the "URL link feature" now available - easy to use, just highlight the typed URL address, and then click "URL" in the area above the posts. That way the URL gets a real link [with no cut/pasting needed].

Update - the Avant browser Tim recommended is only for Windows computers I went to their website and did not see any download option for Mac users. Oh well, maybe something else will develop. Or, I can view dvdtown using Safari or Opera (which correctly showed the URLs in member posts).

Damn! That's the other bummer the irks me, iMac, Windows (PC) or Linx! However, Macs do come with Intel processors and you can actually run Windows on a Mac, thus allowing you to run PC software. The whole thing is much like the HD/Blu-ray format war but has sustained a war for two decades (makes me wonder if the DVD format war could last that long).

Yeah, I wasn't sure if Avant had a Mac edition, but if you ever decided to run Windows on your Mac . . .well, there you have it. At least Apple has become more aware of being compatible and has made efforts addressing that issue. God knows they need to in order to keep some place in the computer market. It's a shame because they do make an attractive product, and had they not charged double the price for their systems over the years, they may have at least held half the market. I've used both in my field and honestly each one has their pluses and minuses. Again, capitalism can be a bitch!

To fully use URLs you have to use the URL feature.

However please note that you do as follows:

Code:
[url=http://www.dvdtown.com]Nice Site[/url]

Which will output:

Nice Site
