The Next Captain Kirk?

"The relatively unknown Chris Pine is in talks to star as Captain Kirk in JJ Abrams' back -to-basics Star Trek venture, according to US reports.
Pine, whose biggest roles so far have included a spot as a neo-Nazi assassin in Joe Carnahan's Smokin' Aces and as the male lead in flop Lindsay Lohan comedy Just My Luck, would join a production which already has its young Spock, Chekov and Uhura safely on-board."

It will be really hard to even hold a candle to William Shatner and I'm not even close to being the biggest Star Trek fan.

All he has to do is make long pauses somewhere in his speech. If he can handle that he'll have the part down solid.

LOL that and he looks like he's always thinking of what to say I wonder who will play Spock. I guess it could be anyone now.

sylar from "heroes season 1" was cast as spock a few weeks/months ago.

It would be entertaining if they got Mike Meyers to play Scotty since he does the Scotish thing so well.

Actually that WOULD be a good idea and he could also add some much needed humour which was a big part of the franchise in the first place. McKoy mocking Spock was always humourous. Scotty pretending something will take half hour to fix when in reality it'll take him all of five minutes was good. Of course he was doing that to make himself look good as he stated in one of the later Star Trek movies.

Yes, it would be funny! Especially the Fat Bastard version of Scotty.

Apparently, Eric Bana (of Hulk and Troy fame) has been cast as an unknown villian.

They just announced Simon Pegg as Scotty and John Cho as Sulu.

I'm at least pleased that I recognize most of these actors (short the Chekov guy). I certainly hope they reach out and get a good Kirk. That just leaves McCoy and Kirk to be cast (since Spock, Sulu, Chechov, Uhura and Scotty have been cast).
