Um TIMMAY, they are comedies, but they are in fact 80's TEEN classics. What I meant, is that movies like American Pie were direct results of those teen 80's classis. Some of you people in here take your movies way to serious. It's like if they are not Casablanca or The Godfather than they are not worth anything at all. TIMMAY loosen up dude, expand your horizons.

By now posters I have seen how very critical you can be and thats ok. But I do not know how old you are, but they are indeed classics. Entertainment weekly and host of other forms of the media have covered the classic 80's teen movies. Those movies, smutty as they are, started a whole new genre of movies. Thats ok if you do not find them funny, but they are classics.

nowadays, the word "classic" is applied to anything for which people feel nostalgia, but such application elevates just about anything to "classic" status--clearly a fallacy. i mean, i'm nostalgic about wasting my afternoons after school watching "GOBOTS" (a rip off of "transformers" ), but that doesn't make "GOBOTS" a classic. we gotta try to use stringent standards. otherwise, we won't know the good from the bad.

if you want a good recent comedy, then try "clueless".

Yea posters and my 10 year old loves that movie. See you delve into these things way to much. I feel that Entertainment Weekly is a very good magazine. I don't agree with the writers of the mag all the time, but most of the times they are dead on. Those movies of the 80's are what set the stage for movies like American Pie and that is a fact. And they are indeed classics in a whole lot of peoples eyes.

"way too much"?

i write dvd/hd dvd reviews. would anyone take me seriously if i gave every movie 15 stars out of 10?

"whole lotta people's eyes"?

a whole lotta people voted for george w. bush. did you know that adolf hitler became chancellor of germany because the nazi party won a democratic election? i don't trust decisions made by consensus.

opinions are not facts. just because 51% of a group likes something doesn't mean that it's actually good.

No it is a fact, and everything that decides what movies are the best, well those are opinions. And that is also a fact.

I know I sure as hell would never put a lot of stock into a magazine telling me what any classic of all time should be when it is generally the magazine's opinion rather then actual fact. That's like saying Rolling Stone magazine's top-ten albums of all time should be trusted as fact, when in reality it's only the opinion of their narrow minded writers. This is usually why entertainment magazines always tend to have different top-ten lists, in which many of them I never agree with.

Expand your research and you will learn that films like Cassablanca and Rear window are indeed classics becaue they simply stand the test of time. Place Porkeys' or Revenge of the Nerds up against any of those films and it's pretty obvious the 80's teen comedies are pure trash. It's really easy to figure out on your own, thus you don't need some arrogant magazine telling you what they think is classic material.

I had to stop reading at this point because it hurt my eyes too much.

Ok so the critics in EW are no good but posters is? I did not put those 80's teen movies up against Casablanca, I simply said that they were classics of the genre in which they are. My GOD loosen up would ya please.
