So there we have it.
100,000 sold in one day and 190,000 in the first week on HD DVD. It is very good numbers. However, the numbers for regular DVDs just shows HD is far being a major business for studios.
8.3 million units since the title’s debut on October 16. Wow!

The question still remains..will spiderman 3 sell more than Transformers? You just know Sony is gonna twist something in their favor to make it LOOK LIKE they sold more (units shipped will be made to look like units sold, etc). It'll be interesting to see what creative press release they come up with this time.

Well, tease me for counting the glass 3% full now
It's significant when you consider just a few months ago any HDM release never reached much above 1.5% of SD sales.

Sony will probably count Every Move in the Spider-man 3 movie set as a sale. That way they can triple their numbers.

But why would anyone be surprised if the Blu-ray edition of SPIDERMAN 3 does in fact outsell Transformers? Both are major releases, and I believe Spiderman 3 had the larger box office [right?], also has a much larger fan base [from the 2 previous films], and which happens to be released on Blu-ray along with a Blu-ray Box set containing all 3 in the series.
So, what's the big deal if it's a very popular Blu-ray release, and outsells the Transformers HD-DVD? It would only mean bragging rights until another major title gets released and outsells Spiderman 3 [note: which I plan to rent on Blu-ray].
300 is #1 - Also, until Transformers breaks it's record, Warner's 300 is still the highest selling hi-def disc [released on both formats, with Blu-ray outselling the HD-DVD]. So, right now 300 would have bragging rights.
I say buy BLADE RUNNER this December, as it will look remarkable with HD remastering (again available in both hi-def disc formats).

Keep in mind that "Spiderman 3" will be included with the $399 PLaystation 3 as well - a big jumping-in point for many I assume. We'll see.
Congratulations Paramount!

Yes I just remembered that also. Sony will be including Spiderman 3 in their PS3's. So even though they won't sell all of these PS3's until who knows when, Sony will count these as being sold copies of Spiderman 3. Remember though the XBOX 360's are selling 5 times as many units as the PS3's.
BTW, anyone know why the threads are not showing on the right side of the page?

I say let Sony bloat the sale numbers of Spider-Man 3 all they want, it just shows how desperate they are because they know they are in deep trouble now.
Xbox 360 is starting to leave all of the other gaming consoles in the dust thanks to Halo, and now you can buy the HD DVD add-on for $179 and get a BOATLOAD of free HD DVDs making it completely worth your while.
I mean seriously, the latest offer I saw gives you Heroes Season One, King Kong, 5 mail-in HD DVDs, plus I think 300 too! If you don't like those movies, just sell them and voilà - you recover all the money you spent for the add-on and then some!
Hmm... and Blu-Ray is better? Pffft... and monkeys might fly out of my butt.

Well, I'm definitely not implying I would rather see Sony's SPIDER-MAN 3 on Blu-ray to outsell the HD-DVD of TRANSFORMERS. But, if it indeed does end up selling more over the next few months, then you should accept the results - no "bloating" by Sony will be needed.
And unless there's an overseas HD-DVD release of the Spider-man films, the only way currently to view these in high-definition is with a Blu-ray player, by purchasing or renting the discs [which I mainly do].
This hi-def format war is going to last quite some time...

Blade Runner will sell well with the older HD DVD crowd. It is not the type of film younger folks like these days. It requires too much THINKING. I doubt if it will be a run away best seller.
And I too hope it transfers well. The two versions I have are awful!

"As we've previously reported, earlier this week Paramount issued a press release projecting record-breaking first-week sales of 190,000 units. Home Media Magazine disputes Paramount's numbers, estimating the actual number of units that sold through to consumers as closer to 115,000."
Here, is not the article corrected? Mr. DVDTOWN in HD DVD camp.

Corrected? Based on one other source's opinion?
The report on the above link concludes with...
For its part, Paramount continues to stand by its original numbers, telling Deadline Hollywood that they checked and double-checked their figures before issuing last week's press release, and that "everything we said is 100% accurate."
So there is a dispute between the official studio, Paramount, and a video news resource, Home Media Daily. Until there is definite proof otherwise, the sales info is not in need of "correcting". Just my 2 cents, and I don't even own this film (yet).

Home Media Magazine (which is apparently very bluray biased) doesn't realize is that their source who gave them the figure of 115,000 didn't count Walmart sales, I believe it was Walmart anyway. Why would they do that? What an incredible convenience
I wonder what else their source didn't include

I'm not very impressed with Home Media Magazine at all. When this news first came out, I even went and checked out their website because I thought they were going to be a dedicated and fact-based news venue.
I was wrong.
Right from the first page, I immediately noticed the Blu-ray favoritism so I will never believe anything that that load of crap reports.

You are nonsense HD DVD freak. This sales data is irrelevant to the content of the article that Home Media Magazine writes. The sales data of Home Media Magazine uses Nielsen 's Videoscan. Do you say that the sales data of Nielsen 's Videoscan is a lie? Even if the HD DVD freak refuses inconvenient data, it is useless. It is child. There is no sales data that does an impartial comparison besides Nielsen 's Videoscan. Because DVDTOWN.com doesn't inquire into the inconvenient truth to HD DVD, the HD DVD freak might like DVDTOWN.com.

Sorry, I must have misunderstood something here. Exactly what is "the inconvenient truth to HD DVD" that we at the site are missing here?

How do you compare the number of the sale of High-Def Movie without sale data of Nielsen's Videoscan? Though Nielsen's Videoscan sale data are announced, why do not you make it an article in DVDTOWN.com?

I guess I'm still missing your point. Because we don't publish Nielsen numbers, for whatever they are worth, is this your "inconvenient truth" about HD DVD? Forgive me if that logic makes no sense to me.
DVDTOWN has objectively reported that Blu-ray has been outselling HD DVD by a 2 to 1 margin all year. Are you suggesting that because we published Paramount's own statistics regarding "Transformers" that that somehow makes something about the HD DVD format in general suspect? I would still like to know what you mean about an "inconvenient truth" about HD DVD? What is this "inconvenient truth" about HD DVD? Not about "Transformers," but about HD DVD in general?
