That's right. Sony defied the DVD Forum and went and made Blu-Ray behind their backs and said "Take it or leave it and there will be a format war." .. they are attempting a take-over.

If I aid it once, I have said it a million times SONY IS OVERATED!!!! They want the consumer to think Blu Ray is not HD DVD, when in fact it is. They want people to think it is a NEW technology when in fact it is not. You can have Spiderman trilogy (number 2 is the only one that is watchable) and other than the first pirates, the other 2 are wayyyyyyy to long and they sucked. Little by little HD DVD will chip away at the lead and pull ahead. C'mon who would you bet on, SONY or Bill Gates? My $$$ is on Billy!!!!

Sony is indeed trying to get the movie industry completely into their own hands. After seeing Blu-Ray and HD-DVD in action I choose to go with the latter. The image quality looked better and the format had way more interactive features to go with. As for some Blu-Ray exclusive titles, I own a few on HD-DVD. I have Fantastic Four and Mr. and Mrs. Smith on HD-DVD and they look great! I'm getting the second Fantastic Four on HD-DVD in December. I also have movies like the Prestige and the Holiday on HD-DVD (European release!). There are a lot of Blu exclusive titles that are actually on HD too.

I really hope that HD wins this war, except for space on the disc they have everything that Blu can't offer! And for me Spider-man was overrated. I liked the first two movies and totally hated the third. But they are, for me that is, not worth a purchase in High Def.

Where did you get the Fantastic 4 in HDDVD? That's one of the movies I was thinking of buying a blu-ray player for. If I can get it on HDDVD, that would be the answer to my problem.

Let me know

It just warms my heart to see that so many of you think excactly the same about Sony as i do. From the beginning they allways point their finger at all the other company's, XBox 360 for being not fully backwards compatible an having a smaller harddrive, but what do they do themselves? Release a PS3 with a smaller harddrive and no backwards compatibility!!! HiDef starts when we will say it starts!!! Yeah right, with a composite cable in the box!!! Come on!!! I realy hope HD DVD picks up in sales, and esspecially here in EUrope, it almost seems like HD DVD is being banned from shops! Its a discrase...

I guess I am the only one who doesn't have a problem with Blu-Ray. Sad. Only time will tell which format becomes the format.

My problem is with SONY and all their bullshit. Stop fabricating the truth and fes up, all you have is an over priced HD DVD player.

The first problem Toshiba is encountering is the availability of there content to the consumer, we have to fight tooth and nail just to pick a certain HD DVD title on the actual release day, and WHY is this..?
2nd Sony's only real innovation in the last five years is there promotionnel machine that continually spins news to there advantage so therefore Toshiba MUST pick up the pase in that particular department because in all fairness even to the abyss of all formats Sony's blu ray Toshiba has the better product, in functions, in price and in innovation.

But what will win this war..? who knows at this point we can only speculate but in my personally opinion... CONTENT will win the war, as far as what's available to the consumer to purchase on the shelves, and as sony continues to flood the market with SH _ _ consumer will eat it up like cake and I for one am considering purchasing the flawed blu ray player because of it's content... why, because of it's continued bombardment of it's release slate alone, and personally hate the blu machine but love films, THX..:-}

So, should we start talking about Microsofts blackhand trying to promote the format wars waiting for their download thing to really succeed?
