So help me out here...I can either buy a 32" Sony LCD (KDL32S3000) for $999.99 plus tax or a 40" Sony LCD (KDL40S3000) for $1,099.00 plus tax (all 720p/1080i)...or is it worth buying a Vizio that has a 1080p resolution if I plan to buy the PS3 and start buying blu-rays?

I don't have a TV or my own PC, so I really would like to spend less than a thousand on the TV...let me know, thanks!!

I know 2 people who own a Vizio and they love it. Now if you go to Circuit City and talk to the brainless 17 year old working through manpower at his local school, he will tell you that it is just an ok TV and that SONY is tops. Let the brainwashing continue!!!!

Well, if you can afford PS3, I don't see you have any problem with your budget. Buy at the store which they have good return policy like Costco. Try it. if it looks good to you. Keep. If not, back to the store.

I agree, either CC or BB (which I think it's worse), most of the 'sales associates' know what the heck is going on. They have no clue about release dates, and no real knowledge of whatever they're selling, is it so hard for training for these people? I mean, they are there to sell stuff, it would be better if they actually knew about the product and let people know that they 'know their stuff'...

The Sony will have a better picture just because of the better processing and quality of internal parts. I've seen both and I think the Sony has a better, smoother and more detailed picture with less video noise even though the native resolution is 720p vs. 1080p on the Visio. The Sony will also have a better reliability than the Vizio on average. I have a friend that works at Costco and they get a lot of the Visio's back. I would say get the Sony and your PS3 and also add a Toshiba HD-A2. That way you can enjoy every Hd movie!

Honestly the best policy is to go and check out both tv's with your own eyes. I used to have a Sharp 52" D62U model but I returned it because of the well known "banding" issue. I was gonna move up to the 52" D92U series from Sharp which have spectacular picture, 120hz, 1080P and all that. I was pretty certain as I had seen it and loved it but before I made a final commitment I went to this electronics store in Toronto that I have been going to for years and spoke the same guy I always speak to. I told him what I was going to buy and he said WAIT! I have something to show you. He took me upstairs where they have all the home theatre rooms and the more expensive flat panels. He proceeds to show me the Pioneer 5080HD 1080i (that's right 1080i) plasma. Right away I was floored at the image. Spectacular! I asked him how can this be 1080i and it looks better than 1080P? We got into this LONG conversation and he showed me other high end flat panels showing the same video feed. None of them compared, including the 1080P plasmas and LCD's.

He told me how he had just come back from a convention and was treated to a demo with other industry professionals, editors, etc. The had FIVE plat panels up on the stage but they covered up all the name brands and anything else that would give away the tv. They should everyone some demos and afterwards asked them which they thought was the best flat panel. Everyone agreed the one in the middle had the best image. So they revealed the tv's it turns out the one in the middle was the Pioneer 1080i 5080HD plasma, the other 4 tv's were all 1080P tv's (2 LCD'S and 2 plasmas). They were all floored that the 1080i looked better than the 1080P tv's, one of which was a Sharp 1080P LCD but he doesn't know if it was the D82U or the D92U.

So this is the reason I say go and look with your own eyes. Not all tv's are made equally. The guts of the tv make a HUGE impact on the picture quality so don't believe all 1080i/P's are the same, just like not all LCD's are the same or plasmas. Check out the tv's yourself and then decide which YOU like the best
