I'd bet money Disney's buy one get one free is what did it for BR. That was smart planning by Disney to try to keep "Disney BluRay" popular... Heh... That's what their recent ads are calling it.. They're hoping by adding their name to it, people will trust it.

If Disney really wanted to make boat loads of money, they'd just support HD-DVD (as well).

I suspect you'll see something similar when Shrek the 3rd comes out.

If you look at the top ten for the week it is mostly Disney titles so bogo did what they wanted it to do, dominate the charts. The bad thing for them is they lost about 1 million dollars to win the week and they still didn't sell 1/2 as many titles as Transformers did.

Admiral7,

I see zero HD deals in for Circuit City and Best Buy next week. At least none in their flyers.

But is Sony counting the free disc from BOGO as another unit sold?

What do you think? This is Sony we're talking about. )
The list of lies and half-truths they have dished out over the past 2 years would fill up this page.

I'm sure both camps even count the mail in rebate free movies... Techincally you did buy them with the player itself, even if it's "free".. if you get my drift.

I've been very careful when it comes to buying HD-DVDs... More so in the past.. Simply because I figured the "war" was still on, and I didn't want thousands invested in a technology that would go away in less than 3 years.

This changed with 300, and then again with Transformers. If Disney simply came over, I'd be buying across the board. But until then, Dreamworks is going to make it ok. I don't need Nemo, if I can have Shrek.

Sony and Disney's nasty attitude towards HD-DVD consumers hasn't them either. If anything it made me feel good when I bought 300 & Transformers...

I wouldn't even be surprised if much of the BR sales is Blockbuster's doing... And I'd be interested who's invested in BB.

Disney did this theatrically when ANASTASIA was released. They shoved out a rushed "restored" edition of LITTLE MERMAID, that was ruined with off colors which pissed off the animators.
They did it to wreak vengance on Bluth and Pomeroy who did ANASTASIA, and left Disney years previous to produce their own animated features. The first few Blut & Pomeroy films were smaller in budget, but ANASTASIA was their biggest to date. In the end, ANASTASIA came out ahead in terms of that weeks box office over MERMAID'S re-release - and continued to do so. The MERMAIN'S re-release failed. The first DVD release of MERMAID was that edition - with horrible color and lost detail. The only collectible thing about it that is unedited, unlike the 2-disc edition (this is something no reviewer noticed.)
I find it interesting that Disney and Fox are both in the BLU camp - as they were years aga when DVD first came on the scene - only they supported DIVIX - which failed.
On an interesting note it was Disney who first helped in the development of HD-DVD as well! This was reported in a trade paper. Meanwhile they claim they are behind BLU for the quality - this from studio who still has on store shelves DVDs made from 12 - 15 year old Laserdisc masters (NIGHTMARE BEFORE XMAS, SISTER ACT, MR. HOLLAND'S OPUS, HOCUS POCUS, BLACK CAULDRON, HELLRAISER: BLOODLINES, THE JOY LUCK CLUB and more!

by the way, they do count the free dvds during buy on get one free, ever notice on the receipt that it list the movies as half price rather than a full price and a free one.
