And the PS3 doesn't come with any hi-def cables.. AMIRITE? I looked at even Walmart, the cables were $50 for a HDMI cable. Then get yourself just one PS3 game you're right back at over $500. Stupid.
$429+ (and up) for Blu-Ray vs. $199 (and down to $169 - Sears Black Friday Ad) for HD-DVD. Tough call! (sarcasm) At least with both deals you get 5-7 free movies.... I think.

If thats true about Sears, you can basically get that price now by their price match policy. Sears will match the Circuit City price and then give you another 10% off. If you open a Sears card, they will give you an additional 10% on top of the price match policy. But you have to charge it and then pay it off right after you buy it.

I'm pretty sure you still get the 5 free HD DVD movies with that. I have yet to see the offer change because of price. The offer is based on certain frames, if you buy the HD DVD players within a set time period you're getting the free movies, this is not something that is set by the store. It's an administrative thing on Toshibas side.

Yep, the Sears ad is from 5am-Noon on Black Friday. So it's a quick sale, but totally legit!

Wow that is a great deal on the A3. But who wants to fight the maniacs, when you can get a great deal on the A2 now. I got mine for 197.99, and still got 7 movies also. I will be thinking of all of you while I sleep in Friday morning.

@InvisibleBiker: Yeah, I sorta agree. It's an insane deal, but I have a player already so I probably won't be out trying to score one. I didn't get the free 5 dvds with mine though, so it's worth it just for that almost!

And it is my understanding is that the A3 and the A2 are not much different other than the cosmetics of the player?

"Toshiba DVD Player Deals Bust $200 Barrier"
"Sure, the HD-A2 might only output at 720p instead of 1080p, but high-def is high-def, and we’ve read more than our share of testimonials of people being more than happy with the performance."
But if you navigate to the entire article it reads "...720P/1080i..." They forgot to paste in the "1080i" in the middle of a sentence??? You have got to be kidding!
Edit: False alarm. The changed it. Probably a mistake, but it was there.

Ya and I'm sure that was an "accident". Riiiiiiight. You see how they try to get people to think HD DVD is inferior? The only way the whole bluray association AND ITS FANS seem to think they can win this battle is by lying and BS'ing.
It gets old fast.
For the record the the HD A2 and HD A3 models show 720P or 1080i, and the picture is incredible. The higher models (HD A20, HD XA2, HD A30 and HD A35) all do 1080P. To top it off ALL HD DVD players do a VERY good job of upconverting regular DVD's to 1080i/P depending on the model.

I'm going to pick up an A2 for my brother for Christmas. His TV is a 720 so this one will be great for him. I already picked up the HD DVD add on with the Heroes does for a friend for Christmas. Yes, I think its going to be a good Christmas for HD DVD

I've said it many times already but I'll say it again. The 1080i HD A2 looks spectacular on my Pioneer plasma so don't go thinking you're getting less of a product. You're getting an incredible deal on the HD A2's!

the bluray fans are so pissed and desperate right now. They're still steaming that they didn't get Transformers LOL. Bluray lost Paramount and Dreamworks and now the HD DVD players are selling for $169 with up to 7 free HD DVD movies!! Bluray fans are BITTER right now. They see this war being lost right before their eyes.

I have to agree with you falcon, the Blu Ray camp seems to have alot of lies. I live over in the UK and the HD war is just starting to stir over here, but I work in an electrical retail store (Currys, its a chain of 1440 stores) and I can see how they seem to be pushing Blu Ray in the wrong way. We had some leaflets in store about high def viewing and compares HD DVD to Blu Ray, saying HD will show in 720p and 1080i and Blu Ray will show in 1080p. I checked the HD DVD players we stock (which are £350 (must equate to $700) but they all play 1080p. I just find it rediculous that over here it seems that Blu Ray seems to be getting a lot more interest just because it's backed by Sony. And people are still overlooking the fact that you can get a HD add on to the 360 for a mere £99. I bought my HD DVD drive with 4 films for £150... bargain, or at least its a bargain compared to the rest of the prices on the market.

That's unfortunate. Consumers are being manipulated and almost FORCED into buying bluray because they are being made to think bluray is better. That's very wrong in my opinion and the losers are the consumers.
I strongly believe after this format "war" that consumers and studios will not be trusting Sony in its future endeavours. If there is another format in the future and Sony is a part of it I'm pretty confident that no studio will trust Sony and stay exclusive to them like they did this time around.

Gee Sony forcing their own format on people, who woulda thunk it. Personnaly I am still sitting on the fence as far as the two formats because I dont want to invest $300.00 or more for a player and find out I can only get three or four movies before it gets dropped. But I will say this about the Wal-Mart and Circuit city deals, Let the price war begin. Wal-Mart will not be undersold, you better believe they will drop the hammer soon to dust Circuit City price. With the free movies this is pretty much a must have with Up conversion on the ADH2 model. Wal-Mart pretty much only sells TVs that can go up to 720P anyway so anyone buying their TVs there wont notice a huge differance. As long as HD players start to sell more studios will look over the fence and start producing movies for the HD format. Sony is in a bind with the paltry sales of the PS3, this really could be a bad time for Sony if Blue ray does fail. Still waiting for the mythical XBOX 360 HD all in one till I make a move, good luck to HD or at least the discs that play both.

Actually it's Ten Dollars off not ten percent.
Edit: If you do the online purchase thing for Sears you can order it back into the store, from the warehouse. So even if the store in your area is out of stock you can order it. It just takes a few extra days to get it.

Ok so I checked bestbuy.ca's web site and they don't have either the HD A2 or HD A3 on there. So it conveniently looks like all the HD DVD players and bluray players are basically around the same price so the consumer will not see that HD DVD actually has a very cheap Hidef player. Ususally if they carry a product, even if it's out of stock, they will still have it on their site.
I checked futureshop.ca which is owned by bestbuy and they only have the HD A3 but not on sale or anything. Then I checked bestbuy.com which is the american site of course and they have the HD A2 listed for $179.99.
