Cool... I'm actually looking forward to Omega Man's release on HD DVD. I hope this remake "I Am Legend" does it justice. I'm just thinking about Will Smith playing Charlton Heston's role... hmmm.

Ok I finally saw the trailer (took forever to download) and it looks pretty good! I may actually go to a theatre for this (haven't been to a theatre in a while)

Actually, both "Omega Man" and "I Am Legend" are loosely based off the far-superior book by Richard Matheson. I always thought Bruce Campbell would have been perfect for the lead role since the novel always had an "Army of Darkness" feel to it.

In any event, I'll probably catch this on IMAX since they're supposed to be showing it with a 5-minute preview for "The Dark Knight."

Kucoloco,

Yes, the Omega Man, an old Charlton Heston flick where he plays the last survivor on Earth due to a deadly virus. I liked it when I was a kid, but I rented it from Netflix a couple years ago and I can assure it's an awful movie! Then again, the Omega Man is really a rip-off of an old Vincent Price film, "The Last Man on Earth."

Actually, "The Omega Man" was an adaptation of the Richard Matheson novella "I Am Legend." thus the similarities with the upcoming "I Am Legend."

EDITED: Oops, Will already beat me to it.

The book is fabulous, one of the best short novels I've ever read. The trailer, of course, bears no resemblance to the book.

I just watched "The Quiet Earth," a 1985 release from New Zealand. It's now available on an Anchor Bay release in a beautiful steel box for about $15 from Amazon. It too is in the "last man on Earth" science fiction sub genre. There are only three characters in entire movie but it does hold your attention. The audio and video transfer is very clean and it includes an extensive and very well written booklet examining the last man theme. The booklet prominantaly mentions "The Omega Man" as well as "I Am Legend." I think I will also buy "The Omega Man" HD DVD and watch it before I view "I Am Legend" when it is available on disk.
