Bad news, John, we agree on this!
Michael Clayton was an odd movie in the sense that I didn't particularly like it as I was watching it, but while watching that lovely final shot roll slowly by, I thought "Hey, wait, that was pretty damn good."
Once and Michael Clayton are probably the two best 2007 theatrical releases I have seen so far. Neither is great, so I'm hoping there is better to come in the final months of the year, but they were both pretty darn good.

Chris,
I didn't find the conspiracy plot to "Michael Clayton" particularly original, intriguing, or even terribly interesting, but I did become invested in the characters and especially the acting. A simple thing like the look of transformation on Clayton's face in the final shot bring it home and made the film just as much fun the second time around for me. I also liked Wilkinson, Swinton, and Pollack.
Incidentally, my line about Tim and Taco being right that Clooney is probably too good for the "G.I. Joe" flick: Maybe I should have pasted one of those little smiley faces after it. I knew Tim and Taco weren't trying to flatter Clooney, and I was being sarcastic. Damn, if you have to explain a joke, it aint' worth it.

I really love a final shot that gives you time to reflect on the movie before the movie is even over.
I have liked Clooney in most of his (real) roles. I also take credit for his career, because I spotted him back in "From Dusk Til Dawn" when he was only the guy from ER and I said "This dude's going to be a huge movie star."
It's that chin wag/head bob. It just looks good on film, much like John Wayne's signature "I gotta hit the can, but I'm too much of a man to do it" walk.

Yeah, but my comment wasn't so much on Clooney as it was reference to Hollywood being lazy. We have enough films that are remakes of old TV shows, video games, Marvel comics and DC comics that the formula has long wore its welcome out. Now they're making movies based on children's toys! I mean, let's face it, when I grew up G.I. Joe was boy's doll that was direct competition for Barbie & Ken! My point is how freaking stupid and silly it is, but hey, it all worked for "Transformers" didn't it? It's probably just another sign that the world truly is going to end in 2012. LOL
