It wasn't James, it's Sony. He was just going by the info that he was given.

In any case, the list isn't false as they all do support BD in one way or another. I'm just saying that Toshiba doesn't have their list of "associates" posted anywhere, and if they did I'd bet they would be pretty close to the 200 mark as well - since a lot of the list of supporters do in fact support both formats.

Yeah that's what i am saying my 3rd-to-last post. But as a journalist some common sense is necessary. 200+ vs. 11? HD DVD wouldn't last this long if it is true. Plus, he should at least dig into the numbers a little bit like Hood did before publishing it.

My bad, it's 18. The rest are just "contributors" but that's completely different than full-blown supporters:

That's the list if anybody wants to check it out.

YOU HAVE A SONY DVD PLAYER!

Nope. The only Sony product I have is a refurbished PS2 that I use only for games. My DVD player is a slim line model Zenith. I'm not picky about brand names or take the side of anyone in general. I go shop knowing what I want, check out what each brand has to offer, then try it out and buy what I feel best suits me. I don't give a crap if it's Sony, Panasonic, RCA, JVC, Mitsubishi, etc.. All I care about is if I like what I see fits my needs, and if the price is fair, then that's what I buy. Besides, I really don't do enough research to know who really does make the best top-of-the-line product, not is it a big concern to me. Taking care of my daughter is a bigger concern to me. Making sure my food is not marred by ecoli bacteria is a concern to me. Combating high gas prices are a big concern to me. Pointless war in Iraq is a big concern. Electronics . . . not that big of a deal when compared to the bigger picture in life. Besides, buying electronics is like buying fruit, you take a gamble.

Anyhoo, I feel the same way. I was in the market for a new DVD player (mine wasn't really broken, but the stupid door would not stay out - only when it wanted to). So I went and looked around and was thinking about getting one that does upconverting. Then I figured why not just spend the extra hundred dollars or so and go completely HD?

Same with my TV. I'll admit, it's a Sony, but it was the best one for me. The room set up here had a lot of glare on my old Panasonic and I hated the thing, so I went LCD. Sony was the best one in the store for the price at that time.

KemVader, we don't tolerate personal attacks on our message boards. Please make your point without namecalling.

The contributor who brought up Wal-mart made a good point. The HD-DVD camp doesn't appear to have brought exclusive distributors into their "association,"the way that Blu-ray has, and they haven't provided the extensive list of members that Blu-ray has. I went with the facts we were given and published facts that I checked to confirm those facts we were given.

But there are people so venomously anti-Blu-ray that anything short of my writing "Blu-ray sucks" would have been enough to set them off. What I saw impressed me, and I won't apologize for that. I think Blu-ray has some great things going for it. I was really impressed with the Panasonic BD30, for example. When you guys see the upconversion capabilities on this Blu-ray player, you're going to be astounded. I mean, we watched FF: Silver Surfer on two 50" plasma monitors side by side, one with the Blu-ray playback and the other with the standard DVD, and wow, they looked close. It's the best upconversion I've seen.

Anyway, this is my last post on this board. I'll let you guys carry on the argument. But again, please keep it civil. We believe in message boards, but we also believe that the Internet shouldn't be an excuse for attacks that you wouldn't make if we were having such discussions face-to-face. Peace!
