Yeah, I say Kill the messenger! Kill the messenger!
Given the nature of the Blu-ray event Jim covered, I'd say he did a bang-up job being as fair and unbiased as he was in his article. If you have a quarrel with the numbers or the information he cited, take it up with Sony, not with Jim. He was merely reporting what he saw and heard.

First, it's James who wrote this article, not Jim.
Second, I give reasons for what I said, no matter if you attribute it as personal attack or anti-bluray-ism. If you disagree, I welcome counter-reasoning and/or additional infornation. I am open-minded to the fact that I might be wrong.
To Jim, stop acting like a child if you are not one.

KimVader,
Jim is the short name for James, you do realize that, yes? As far as I can tell, James, or Jim as you prefer to call him, never attacked you.

I'm not sure if you're teasing or just confused. James and Jim are the same person. James Plath and Jim Plath are the same person. And he's very, very good at what he does as a university English and journalism professor. No one could have been less biased than Jim (James) in that article. Period.
It appears you didn't want him to report the news of the Blu-ray event but to do some muckraking and dig up some dirt on Sony. That wasn't his job.

I thought it was an excellent review of the BD event. Based on Jim's comments, I may actually look into that Panasonic player in the distant future.
Another thing, the quality of the dialogue on this forum has degenreated to the point that it sometimes resemmbles that found on other sites. I'm not refering to Tim's unique sense of humorI'm refering to the posts of some of the new members.DVD TOWN has always been a class act. Let's keep it that way.

First of all, it's kind of hard to keep things civil when no matter what you post, you have someone replying to every single one of your comments with one single purpose - to try and get a rise out of you. That was even openly admitted in these posts. Unique sense of humor or not, it's downright annoying and a form of personal attack.
I know I've posted some things here that I probably could have worded better. However, this is a forum. There are going to be differences of opinions, and not everyone isn't going to agree with some comments one makes.
As for James, I've said it before that I had no problems with him - only the facts that were presented in the article. Sony may in fact list every single company that they've ever dealt with as contributors or general members, but that's really blowing the whole 200+ supporters thing to the moon. I've seen other sites list HD DVD having 11 supporters, while BD having 17-18, so after seeing the whole 200+ magic number it came as a shocker.
Maybe Toshiba is to blame for not listing their "contributors" to try and help bolster their numbers, or maybe they are cocky and feel they don't have a need to, or maybe they just don't want to stoop to Sony's level. Who knows? But after looking over that list, I can tell you that I've never heard of most of those companies listed. I'll bet some of them are probably stockholders in the product and nothing more, while some of them are just products necessary to make the hardware work properly.
It's getting out of hand already. What's next 400+ supporters? Why not? It won't be an unaccomplishable goal. They can list Scotch tape for holding the boxes together. They can list cellophane companies for shrinkwrapping the movies. They can list Best Buy for selling the product in their stores. They can list Ray Charles for being a "ray." They can list cavemen for inventing the wheel. When will it end?
So that's the only point I was trying to make when this whole thing started. I just said that Sony was stretching the truth - which is not a lie. Is it a good business decision? Maybe, but why even fight dirty if the product is superior anyways?

Oh, and I wanted to apologize to James if it seemed like I was making personal attacks as that was not my intent.

That is funny, but at the same time I sense frustration mixed with panic! Do I dare say . . . Nah, I'll be nice today.
