I was just wondering about the reviews you made on both the Blu-ray and HD DVD versions of the film. I noticed that you scored the Blu-ray version a higher score for video quality and was wondering if it actually does look better or is it just because of the reviewers point of view as i noticed John rated the HD DVD version, yet both of you rated the Blu-ray version. I just was wondering because if you're going to have 2 different people rate the same movie on 2 diffenrent formats, it could lead to biased opinions which is something that, we at this point should be avoiding as it only starts more bantering from one camp to the other. So please clarify this and if possible could you please only have 1 person rate and review 1 title in both formats as to maintain a proper comparison.

Thanks

When we post joint reviews, we try to be as clear as possible about which reviewer is reviewing what. If you notice in the Blu-ray joint review of "2001," I reviewed the film itself and Dean reviewed the BD technical qualities. In my HD DVD review of the film, I reviewed both the film and the HD DVD technical qualities.

Since Warner Bros. uses exactly the same HD master and encode for their Blu-ray and HD DVD releases, and since there should be no discernible difference between the quality of the Blu-ray and HD DVD video formats if they are both transferred to disc carefully, the reader may attribute any variation in video-rating scores to the personal interpretations of the reviewers: Different eyes, different televisions, different attitudes, different expectations, different moods when watching the film.

Be assured, however, that if Dean and I both gave the film a score only a point apart (my 9/10 and his 10/10), we both saw the same film in almost exactly the same way. We both thought "2001" looked great. Please don't read anything into my one-point lower score. We are not trying to show any Blu-ray bias here.

as time warner (including warner bros., new line, and HBO) is the only major hollywood media company supporting both formats, i agree with the thread starter that one person should review dual-format releases. this cuts down on confusion for readers, and this cuts down on propaganda to be used by either side for any discrepancies in review ratings.

Heck, you never know when one reviewer point could change the whole direction of the war.
