Sometimes our heated debates on the format war makes us forget that there are other things in the world.

So if you feel like it be sure to check out the new trailer for the documentary "Dafur Now."
Trailer Page

It looks to be a thoughtful and informational documentary. Have anyone seen it yet?

It looks very interesting. I can only hope some good comes out of it.

The biggest problem in America is we are kept so distant from the issues in Africa. All our news media cares about is Iraq war and Brittney Spears (Of course we do constantly hear about Opra's big school in Africa, which I hear recently has some serious issues. To me it's more news to pat Opra on the back than it is making American's realize they need to get involved.). Every once in a while we might see how Bono is doing with his "red" products to help African's. I know I've done my part and have purchased a few "red" products from time to time. Of course, I'm the kind of guy that feels like if everyone in the world donated one-dollar every month it would solve a lot of problems. Perhaps someone needs to organize a site that did just that. I mean really, how hard can it be to ask people to donate a measly dollar every month towards a good cause. Think about it, it may take off slow but with enough backing and clever marketing it could have a snowball effect that could generate millions every month. I may be optimistic about the whole thing, but if you want to help change the world, hope is where you start and it's something you have to have.

I don't know about "Darfur Now." However, the Darfur documentary "The Devil Came on Horseback" just came out on DVD. And, in fact, $1 from every purchase of the DVD will go to a Darfur charity.

You know, it is almost like the civil war. Just think, in about 40+years us old timers will be asked, "which side were you on grandpa, Blue or Red?"

Unfortunately, from what I've read about financial aid to African nations, much of the donated funds are often squandered (or stolen) from corrupt government leaders, and rarely gets used for the benefit of the people needing it most. So, it's left to various human-aid groups and affiliates, such as the U.N., International Red Cross, and others to get the actual foods and medicine (etc) distributed properly.

I think that the organizers of the 1985/2005 Live Aid concerts were critical of some recent aid-benefit (from earlier this year?), with reports that the funds would be diluted, and much would not find it's way to those in need. Anybody else here about this?

I've donated sometimes to the "Feed the Children" organization. Recently, they have directed contributions to those homeowners/families in southern California who suffered much loss from the terrible fires.

I have the chance to see this at a press screening either this week or next (I forget), but I won't be able to get there because of commitments.
