I just got a toshiba A-3 DVD player and got my 10 free DVDs from Best buy, awesome deal by the way,...one of them included is the movie 300....I dont know how many of you have seem it on HD, but I am very dissapointed...the picture is very Grainy and fuzzy....im sure thats the way it was filmed or something, but I thought it was terrible. I've played some of my other dvds including transformers and bourne Identity and they were awesome. But 300 SUCKS on hddvd

Mjob, Is your version of 300 an HD DVD/DVD combo? If it is make sure you're playing the HD DVD side and not the standard DVD side.
Having said that 300 is intentionally grainy. It's all part of the style intended for the movie. You'll also notice the colors are off but this again is part of the style.
Still a great movie but it may not be the best to show off your HD DVD in all its glory. Batman Begins, Corpse Bride, TMNT (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Grand Prix, The Planet Earth series all look good on HD DVD just name a few but there are many, MANY more that look really good on HD.

300 has a highly stylized look, it uses the "crush" effect a lot and it was shot entirely on greenscreen. Some people like the look of the movie and some people don't but I think everyone can agree it isn't what you think of when you think of "HD". Usually when people think about "HD" they're thinking about things like Planet Earth highly detailed landscapes. If you don't like the look of movies like 300, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, or Sin City HD probably won't do much to dissuade you.

I didn't think I would but I actually liked the look of 300. It was a pleasany suprise. Sky Captain, however, drove me crazy with its filtered look. Sky Captain would have been a lot better in with a sharp crisp HD look.

Steve I totally agree. Sky Captain drove me nuts also, it killed the movie for me. It would have been MUCH better if they went for detail and sharpness.
