@bubblebathgirl :
So you post links of some numbers? The press doesn't give a crap about those links you regurgitate. They care about when a HD player goes sub-$100 and sells the crap out of them. That's momentum. It was all over news sites.. a small lead in Blu-Ray software sales is hardly anything to create a shift or much less a mark in major news reporting. A player that all the sudden reaches every movie buying demographics gets attention and makes a whopper of a dent in the perception of the formats. There are way more J6Ps out there then people like us... and this player hit their budget and will continue to hover in that tempting price range throughout the holiday season. Again, that's MOMENTUM.

We were wondering how well HD DVD was doing with those new price cuts, and now here's Video Business with the answer: according to sources at retailers, Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Circuit City -- among others -- were able to move 90,000 stand-alone HD DVD players this weekend. Most of them were last year's entry level HD-A2, which sold for the low, low price of $99 -- but not all. This dramatically increases the user base for the HD DVD camp, but that's not saying much since the format only sold about this many stand-alone players in its first year. In the world of consumer electronics, 90k isn't that impressive, but considering the estimated loss Toshiba took on each unit, we can see why they'd want to limit the supply. The problem for the HD DVD camp is that they're really up against the PS3's sales, and even though only 40% of PS3 owners realize that there is a Blu-ray player built in, that's still about 750,000 people in the US. But ultimately, this format war is about selling movies, and we'll be keeping a close eye on the weekly sales numbers to assess the impact of this early holiday sales blitz.

Cellien, a 2:1 lead is not a SMALL lead ... what if the situation was reversed? You'd be singing a far different song then

Not if Blu-Ray came out with a $99 player. Funny that's all you got to come back with too. Just give it up, go back to Gamespot forums with the rest of your PS3 buddies.
No one here is going to "convert" so give it a rest. I can't believe the amount of time you put into trolling. You've gotta be Sony damage control unit going full force on good HD-DVD news.

bubbles:
the numbers work out something like this.
Out of every 300 movies sold, 3 are high definition.......
thats
297 DVDs
2 BDs
1 HD DVD
that margin doesn't make a difference at this point in time.
If it was 50% of ALL movies sold were BD, it would matter.
Those numbers are assuming 99% of all movies sold are still DVD, which I beleive is accurate, and assuming its still 2:1......which last i heard BD & HDDVD were coming closer to a 1:1 in sales a week or two ago but Bluray had a 2:1 lead FOR THE YEAR. Notice, the for the year. There haven't been that many sold this year to begin with. $99 players and even $150/$200 players will make a huge difference, as will/has all the hype around the $99 player

Cellien, it's funny how you insult me for proving my case. Blu-ray is winning and I have already provided stats to prove it. Is it too painful for you to admit that?

"You know, she'd probably deny the holocost if she was being paid by the Nazi's what she's being paid by Sony..." --dguisinger
Bubblebathgirl,
I agree with your resentment of this kind of language and treatment. If I were still in charge of monitoring the Message Board, I would delete dguisinger's statement in a flash. Instead, I have forwarded his message to our Editor and recommended that he delete it.
Could we have a little restraint around here, folks? I hate to see a pleasant hobby degenerate into a bloodbath. And if it does, the Editor may be tempted to do what AVS did today and shut down all its HD forum threads.
Also, since anyone can lie with statistics, and since both sides in this format war are having a field day doing just that, you might want to take a look at DVD Empire (www.dvdempire.com), a major DVD sales site that is usually a good indicator in microcosm of this format war at any given moment. They show the total number of studios publishing in Blu-ray and HD DVD, the number of titles issued in each format, and their percentage of sales for each. Their numbers might be enlightening for those of you reaching for arguments by making them up as you go along.
John

Bubblebath:
So its true.. you are trying to convert people.
Hey sorry your offended by my comments, but your trolling is much more offensive. Please refrain from trying to convert people to YOUR format of choice. Please if you aren't here to talk about HD-DVD (by means of NOT trolling), move on. This isn't the right topic for you.
