shawnwc, I didn't say it sounds funny ... I said it was difficult to say ... try it yourself. The 2 "d"s next to each other create a tongue-twister. It's not hype surround Blu-ray ... it's a little thing called REALITY. Look at the numbers ... those are cold hard facts ... facts which you are clearly ignoring. Sure, we'll see in 2 months where we are with all of this ... and if Blu-ray still has a 2:1 lead ... what then? You going to say the holidays didn't matter? Stick to the facts ... and the facts show Blu-ray winning.

Cellien, are you really that angry? that threatened by me? You can't dispute the numbers so you try to insult me. There's a little thing called free speech ... and it's something that the people who run this forum seem to support. You should be thankful they do. You keep calling me names ... that really makes your argument seem strong.

I'm not hear to change anyone's mind, I'm hear to point out the facts. Which I have. And the fact is that Blu-ray still maintains a clear 2:1 lead during 2007 over HD DVD. Insult me all you want, it just shows that you are upset cause your chosen format is losing and you don't like someone pointing that out.

Sony just updated the new time frame for this format war. According to bubblebathgirl, Blu ray camp has new date for victory party at end of next year 2008.( Instead of Q1 of 2007). We have not had exact date yet. bubblebathgirl will keep us inform.

Even your facts, and numbers will be different in 2 months.

If the XBOX 360 had had an HD-DVD drive in it, the numbers would already been blow out of wack, just like the PS3 numbers.

Trying to convince people they should shell out $400-$500, instead of $98 -- because historically PS3 sales have made BR sales look good isn't going to trick anyone.

The numbers are changing - and not like slowly over the last 12 months - like lighting over the last 2 months. It's coming and it's coming fast.

Bubblebathgirl,

I knew you wouldn't and couldn't answer them. Love your spin too, spoken like a true PR plant.

BTW - Didn't mean to insult you by suggesting you were the epitome of a fanboy. I will edit that out for you in the original post, hopefully it didn't cause too much damage to you. Again, sorry about that.

Alright Bubbles .. I informed myself. Looks like HD-DVD took the cake for most of the chart, until the PS3 came out. Then game consoles accounted for BluRay sales.

So would you argue that PS3 purchases were by mostly movie buffs and not game buffs? That it was purchased for it's BluRay, and not it's games??

The PS3 certainly without any doubt is effecting BR numbers... I know people who have the PS3 - and they didn't buy it to watch movies.

I think HD-DVD owners have also been holding back on movie sales, as I have - waiting for the war to get closer to an end (either way). I've been using Netflix to avoid buying movies.

Now that things have really been shaken up - I feel safer buying movies - and have started. Your crazy freaking out and pretending we're all stupid isn't fooling anyone. We're technologically versed, and prudent consumers. $500 for a player that does 1920x1080 or $98 for a player that does 1920x1080 (with the exact same codec)... It's a no brainer... well, for most.

"Blu-ray still maintains a clear 2:1 lead during 2007 over HD DVD" --bubble

Again, not to take sides or dispute bubble's basic premise because Blu-ray is definitely winning the war in disc sales for the year, but the 2:1 figure is a myth generated by Sony shills. The actual margin is 3:2. At DVD Empire, reflective of Amazon and other retailers, March was the only month in 2007 in which Blu-ray outsold HD DVD by a 2:1 margin.

And Bubbles.. It's a real turn off lashing out at everyone. You just appear frantic and angry... maybe that you were an early adopter of the $1000 BR player... maybe not.

I love Sony products.. I have a 50" Sony SXRD, which I swear by - and have even talked 2 friends into buying. But THAT was a product worth the money. Nobody else could match the resolution, contrast - and the thing I love the most - NO screen door. Looks like film.

When it came to looking at HD movies, I looked at both. Spec by spec. In the end, while some had more or less (Sony --out the door-- had more space while HD-DVD had dual-tuners, ethernet, much lower cost --actually almost half the cost most of the time--) it was clear for me which format I **wanted** to win - the cheapest. The end result on your TV is the SAME - WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU ARGUE IT'S BETTER TO PAY MORE???? You don't sound like a consumer. You sound like a sales guy who's commission is about to take a hit.

And I wonder why the PS3 is the cheapest BR player?

shawnwc, Blu-ray has been the clear leader the ENTIRE year of 2007. 2:1 advantage, there is no disputing that. How have things been shaken up? Cause HD DVD did a fire sale of 1080i players ... you can't buy a $99 HD DVD player anywhere ... if you go to Bestbuy.com the cheepest HD DVD player is $299, the cheapest 1080p Blu-ray player is $399.

Show me where you can buy a $99 HD DVD player that does 1080p. You can't, and you're simply lieing to try and help your cause ... which, in effect, only weakens it. Like I said, go to Bestbuy.com and see for yourself.

John, if you go to DVD EMPIRE, it's 61.61 to 38.39, that's a 1.6:1 advantage if you want to be exact. 3:2 calculates to 1.5:1. If you go to http://blu-raystats.com/percentages.php it's 64:36 or 1.8:1

So a more precise ratio based on the above stats would be 12:7 ... or 1.7:1

John was right to point out what he pointed out, and it's fair to revise the ratio ... notice also how John doesn't disagree with the fact that Blu-ray is outselling HD DVD. This is the sign of someone who can think reasonably and logically.

The bottom line is that Blu-ray is still outselling HD DVD, and nothing you say can change that.

Would you then argue, if BR sold zero titles in December that BR is "clearly" the winner???

Things are changing. You're blind or a BR sales monkey. I'm a consumer. I'm not paying MORE money for anything that is EXACTLY the same.

$169 HD-DVD 1080P -- in what 2 weeks???? Geez I should run out and drop $399 on a game console!!! Quick where's my wallet.

And my SXRD, whatever Gen it is - was the last one before 1080P input (it's does upscan everything to 1080P)... So spending MORE for me has no point.... So yes, I picked up 4 $98 players - and we're all very very happy.

For you - for some crazy reason - it makes total sense to spend 4 times as much money for the same end game... Go figure.

You concede no ground. Again, check your numbers in 2 months.
