LOL - hey, that's a good point you made 007! I remember this past year on engadgetHD's site that not once, but TWICE Sony declared the HD-disc format "war" over, and Blu-ray the winner... yet obviously the war continues with no apparent "winner" in site, and will continue like this for many years (IMO).
And what would happen to Blu-ray's chance of survival IF Warner eventually decides to also go "HD-DVD exclusive" (like Paramount)? I don't think Sony's pockets are that deep [for payoff to Warner]
There's really no reason to keep arguing about this battle too much, as it will be a long time before either "folds", if ever. They both might co-exist [but have a much smaller market share compared to standard DVD], yet the red ink incurred by Sony is much more than Toshiba's, as that WSJournal article I posted not long said Sony won't make any profit on Blu-ray/PS3 until 2009-10 at the earliest (based on Sony's estimates for potential sales), since they've already spent well over $1 billion, and continue to expend more hoping for an increase in sales.

@bubblebathgirl:
No one has disputed Blu-Ray has sold more thus far. The overwhelming response to the $99 and $199 HD-DVD players is what makes Blu-Ray's future questionable. The way you regurgitate the same stuff post after post "The bottom line is that Blu-ray is still outselling HD DVD, and nothing you say can change that. " kind of stuff is irrelevant for the topic at hand and for that fact that we don't have to say anything to change that because the "war" is far from over, infact the momentum in the press has told consumers you can get HD movies on the cheap now. The war has only just begun.
NOTHING you have presented even factors in the 100,000 HD-DVD players sold in such a short time and it's trickle down effect in software amounts.

It's like you believe if I were smart enough I'd run out and spend more money. That I'm just stupid. Geez - if I had spent $1000 on a BR player that didn't have an ethernet port, or the 2nd decoder -- and now they're starting to have them - I'd be livid peed-off'ed.
So even when the HD-DVD was $500 and BR was $1000, HD-DVD was a better "VALUE". The PS3 CLEARLY helped the BR numbers, but it doesn't reflect which is a better VALUE, or a better choice for consumers.
You're point is 2:1, which to you says the war is over and BR has won, and that I should concede to paying more money. I should go pay it now. I should be HAPPY to pay more. I should shut up and pay more. Nevermind specs, features, or growing sales... 2:1. 2:1. 2:1.

shawnwc, it's ironic that you say I'm blind when you won't even comment on the current official sales stats.
It's funny how you result to name calling like other die hard HD DVD supporters ... it seems like a common tactic. So far John seems to be the only poster here who can provide HD DVD supportive information without showing anger or resorting to name calling. He actually responds directly to the stat issues, and goes as far as to provide links to support what he's saying. You should pay attention and learn from him if you want to help your cause.
Show me links to whatever 1080p player you're going to buy, I'd love to see it.
I can see why you are so upset, you got tricked into buying 4 paper weights that don't even do 1080p. LOL!
Blu-ray is winning, I check the numbers everyday and see that continue, it's great, and I'm loving it.
It's funny how many "what ifs" a bunch of you are talking of. "What ifs" can go either way, sticking to the present facts is what I'm doing, and they have Blu-ray winning.
Inspite of the "overwhelming" response you speak of Cellien, Blu-ray is still winning.
Shawnwc, I don't care what you spend your money on ... it's obvious you don't either. Do what you want, I DO NOT CARE. I'm gonna just sit back and enjoy watching Blu-ray outsell HD DVD, and there's nothing you can do about that.

You're right bubble... But since DVD has out-sold all I should stick with that.
I understand that the PS3 has changed the BR numbers, and for the positive. What I'm saying is that things are changing. As pricing changes, when someone goes to store and sees both on a TV - and they look the same, they won't just give up $500 for sake of spending more. Nobody does. It's not like Toshiba is some off-Korean brand.
Less almost always wins. Sure you show me sales stats, but if you were a sales guy - what would be your argument to spend $500, instead of $98... That the PS3 helped changed the numbers? and for the 3rd time in HD history the war is over AGAIN?
Consumers have spoken (in the last month) - they love HD - and they love HD under $200... more under $100. Things are going to change. Telling me that BR sales has historically been better does not sway me. Numbers for what is happening NOW do.
I would stand to bet that the PS3 ALONE made those numbers. And that consumers WILL STILL NOT PAY $500 for a BR console (just like they didn't when they were $1000), when HD-DVD is under $200. We're all seeing this happen. 2:1 doesn't make $98 look unattractive - it puts HD in the hands of MORE people.

bubblebath,
Spout out the same ole same ole. Does major price drops (sub $200) - fire sales (sub $100) - and x-mas mean anything to you? Anyone that ignores that is being a fanboy and isn't making an adequate market analysis of future sales. That isn't name calling or insulting.. It's fact.

... and please don't make me acknowledge 2:1 another time for you just to say I'm not acknowledging it.
What I'm saying is that it makes no difference. Landscape is changing. When you sell 90,000 players, not game consoles - you can assume that each person will buy at least (1) MOVIE (not game title).
Try and ignore those numbers. That alone is almost as much as SM3's release... which didn't make the Transformers numbers...
Numbers numbers numbers... They're all changing.
If Ford sold 1,000,000 Escorts in 1985, they should just assume they'll continue to sell more and more until it is the only car purchased... Good thinking. Oh wait - the market changed. Consumers DO have a voice. Thank God.

Cellien, you realize that a "fire-sale" is a BAD thing right?
You are presenting no facts to support your argument. While I am presenting clear statistics that show I am right.
Here's another recent article, about a week old, talking about the Blu-ray festival in Hollywood: http://www.homemediamagazine.com/news/html/breaking_article.cfm?article_id=11449
It's from an unbiased news source that states many of the advantages Blu-ray has.

shawnwc, Spiderman's numbers BEAT Transformers. Paramount was reported by numerous news sources as inflating their numbers.
And even without a BIG title coming out at the same time as Transformers, Blu-ray still won that week ... that's got to burn eh?

Bubble you do realize lots of "stories" were told at that festival... Taking untrue shots at "other" companies???
Bubble... You're like those 9/11 conspiracy people... We'll see how you change your story in a couple months.. I'm sure it will be something like "well all those HD-DVD people lied and now BR is paying for all those lies".
You're calling it a fire sale - the $98 HD-DVDs... Walmart called it a pre-black-Friday holiday sale... BestBuy and Circuit city called it price matching. Yes "fire sale" sounds bad... That's why you're using it.
What are you calling the A3 sale that's coming up on black Friday??? Consumers are speaking with their wallets - and you HATE that.
