So much for that trend -- for a few weeks there is looked like the HD DVD camp was making up lost ground on Blu-ray and even got within one percent of beating them. But, according to this weeks Nielsen VideoScan numbers, courtesy of Home Media Magazine, Blu-ray took the lion's share of the HD movie sales again this week with a 71% to 29% split (2.45:1). It appears that the Transformers' effect wasn't enough to hold off Spidey 3, despite the disappointing sales. What's really interesting is that there is only one HD DVD title in the top ten this week, and to add insult to injury, four of the top ten titles are also available on HD DVD, but didn't sell well enough to make the list. Keep in mind that these numbers are from last week, so Disney's two blockbusters aren't included and HD DVD's highly successful sale of the HD-A2 was too late in the week to impact the results, as well. The other title not included that we expect to hit the top ten next week is I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, but we don't think it will be any match for Disney's rat.

1. Spider-Man 3 BD 100.00
2. Spider-Man: The High Definition Trilogy BD 71.95
3. Transformers HD 31.42
4. Meet the Robinsons BD 8.82
5. 300 BD 6.56
6. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer BD 5.03
7. License to Wed BD 4.24
8. The Shining BD 4.11
9. Mr. Brooks BD 4.03
10. 2001: A Space Odyssey BD 3.88

bubblehead, you do realize that WalMart, the largest retailer on planet Earth, does NOT contribute sales data to Nielsen? So those pie charts are not representative of actual sales since the sales data of the (I repeat) LARGEST RETAILER ON EARTH is not included? Not one iota?

EDIT: ..and WalMart isn't the only one.

Those Spidey numbers will drop in another week or so, after the Blu-ray fanboys pick up their copies.

> EngadgetHD: HD DVD is more popular on Netflix

Also, it's been reported for about a year now, that HD-DVD owners BUY more HD discs per capita (per owner) than Blu-ray owners (including PS3), which is more bad news for Sony... HD-DVD growing stronger (The Force is strong with this one!).

Bubbles and BluC... I'm telling you, drop the BD "hype" just once, and listen to my hype! - SONY IS REALLY $CARED right now, with these low-priced HD DVD players going to masses. Blu-ray profitability is too reliant on high-priced production, whereas HD-DVD can be produced cheaper (both the players and the discs). And with the downturn in the economy going into 2008, I'm betting Wall Street will be shorting Sony's stock (if not already).

Kilgore, WalMart sells Blu-ray, PS3, and media for both.

If WalMart isn't being included in the Nielsen ratings it works both ways. If you check http://www.walmart.com/ right now it has a PS3 on it's main page. LOL!

Hendrix, you're mistaken, the presenter was talking about attach rate, not sales.

I'm sure Sony is really scared when the numbers are in their favors:

Bubblebabbler:

Walmart sales don't just work it self out in Neilson numbers especially since it was the main retailer selling the $98 HD-DVD players... Genius.

Since you repost the same crap over and over.. I will start to do the same.

If you actually read the article I linked to you would have seen that the Fire-sold HD DVD players were not yet factored into the pie charts ... neither are the new Disney movies Cars and Ratatouille. Those items will come through in the following weeks numbers.

I read your posts, I read the articles you link to and I respond in kind.

The tone in all of your posts is one of frustration ... I can understand how you feel cause HD DVD is losing so badly. So I'll forgive your immature behavior.

"...we don't think it will be any match for Disney's rat." --bubblebathgirl

Bubble,

I'm so glad you finally admit you're working for Sony. Why else would you use the pronoun "we" in your post? And how else would you have such instant access to all the links and statistics you throw around every two minutes?

We welcome views from both camps, and we (the staff of DVDTOWN) encourage lively debate. But at this point you are truly not only a shill but a troll. You bring nothing new to the discussions here at the Message Boards, you only repeat yourself endlessly for the sake of stirring up anger and discontent, and I am truly ashamed at my own site for your presence here.

Kmart has OFFICIALLY announced to ONLY SELL STANDALONE HD-DVD players. ZERO STANDALONE BLU RAY PLAYERS. Aaawww.

I guess for a 'losing' technology (as you stressed w/ dire hallucination)... Kmart wants to lose money.
Not only do you assume -with your idiotic opinion- that the HD-DVD blitz sale, as a hoax, you can LOGICALLY explain why Walmart has agreed w/ a Chinese manufacturer TO MASS-PRODUCE HD-DVD standalone players... ready for consumers on 2008. Oh wait, no - you can't explain that. That's beyond your juvenile comprehension.

You're an idiot, but that's OK! Trolls are people too.... oh wait.
