Actually it's called "Black Friday" because it is the most important day of the year in sales and usually determines whether a store will be in the "black" as opposed to the "red" for the year.
Finally! Some one gets this right! Hats off to you movielover.

Yeah, the 1% wealthy of America can certainly afford to get their "Johnny" kid game consoles and HDTVs for thier bedroom. Do you have any clue the way the rest of America has to live? My god man, your analogy is soooo freaking far in left field that it's out of the ballpark. Yeah, if I lived in Malibu Beach I'll have all kinds of X-Boxes, PS3's and HDTV's for my kids, but the rest of America has bills to pay and keep food on the table. Your point of view only makes sense to a small minority of people that are fortunate enough to afford all these luxuries you treat as common place for everybody.
<<Insulting bits deleted>>
No, I said the vast majority do not provide their kids with HDTVs in their bedrooms. That was the point of my post - in that most PS3s currently sold are hooked up to standard TVs, and have not otherwise yet bought into the high definition market. As far as people only living in "Malibu Beach" affording PS3s and other game consoles for their kids, do you really suggest that the majority of parents buy these for themselves and hide them from their children? Or are you suggesting that the last traditional families consisting of parents and at least one child only exist in Malibu Beach?

Neither, I'm suggesting you live in Fantasy Land.

Tim, this trolling of yours is getting out of hand. Since we seem to have no moderators in this forum let me remind you:
NO PERSONAL ATTACKS. Discuss the content of a post. Do not attack the poster. This includes name-calling.
NO PERSISTENT HARD PROFANITY. We would like to think that anyone could enjoy reading DVDTOWN without being unnecessarily offended.
NO TROLLING. No one appreciates the poster whose sole mission is to incite anger and purposely disrupt the lives of others. A troll is no different from the person who keys a new car's paint job.
NO SHILLING. If you are posting primarily for personal gain, profit, or self interest, we do not welcome you.
Thank you for your cooperation.

It's certainly getting more hostile on these boards of late. We've seen a lot more arguing about the format war lately and it is getting rather personal. I hope this board remains civil, the personal attacks need to stop. Bluray supporters should feel comfortable here just as HD DVD supporters.

Skyhawk,
The staff intends to do what it can to moderate the Message Board, first with simple warnings and then with deletions of offending messages. But try to understand that what one person calls "trolling" is what another person calls serious discussion or argumentation. We're a pretty tolerant bunch here, especially the editor who believes firmly in democratic debate. So we're not going to delete something every time somebody's feelings are hurt. Personally, I don't think Tim is trolling. He is responding to questions and defending his ideas--perhaps a little too enthusiatically in your opinion. We'll do what we can.
Tim,
Calm down, use reason, and know when to stop an argument that is going nowhere.
John

It's even worse when duel format people like myself who buy into both HD DVDs and Blu-rays are driven off this forum. This isn't some Muslim Jihad or Christian inquisition, it's about movies. And I love great movies, especially in high definition, and want to chat about them. If this site is for HD DVD exclusive folk to circle*erk* each other, then I'm out of here. No ban necessary. I didn't think that was the situation here originally, but if this is some exclusive little island whose membership requirements necessitate me giving up half my movies then I'm gone.
It's ridiculous to put up with being called childish, degrading names for every post I put up. No other forum I frequent would put up with it. I suspect the lack of duel format people (let alone no Blu-ray regulars except for trolls or visitors) is symptomatic.

Skyhawk,
Actually, I never go out to troll anyone. I do comedy troll and I like to make people laugh because I have a sense of humor. Your posts to me were an immediate attack on my intelligence and I was accused of spreading lies, propaganda and FUD (whatever that means). I am not out to start a fight with anyone or pass insults unless I need to defend myself or friends. I admit our debate escalated beyond what should be considered adult behavior, for that I apologize. I have no problem in agreeing to disagree and hope that in the future we can be civil to each other. In other words, let's just get along.
Keep in mind, I have my fingers crossed behind my back . . . Just kidding! LOL

Skyhawk,
I feel your pain. The HD DVD supporters here are numerous and they have no more patience with Blu-ray supporters than Blu-ray supporters do with HD DVD supporters. DVDTOWN did not start this damned format war, but it has driven a wedge between people the likes of which only the country's politics have done in recent years.
As for your statement that "No other forum I frequent would put up with it," I would point out that the most technical, the most moderated, and the previously most civilized forum on the Net, the AVS Forums, allowed things to get so out of hand that violence erupted there and people made death threats. They had to close down all of their HD forums for the better part of a week because of it, and then when they reopened they had eliminated one of the more-contentious forums (the Nielsen ratings forum) altogether.
So this high-def divide exists everywhere, not just here. We just happen to be a high-visibility site. The editor will try to eliminate any posts he deems go over the line, but we are not going to delete every post that every reader feels we should just because the reader says so. It's the editor's judgment call at the moment, or mine if I recommend something to him.
If you don't like a thread, stop reading it or respond with constructive information, criticism, or advice. If you find something that is seriously threatening, abusive, intolerable, trolling, shilling, hard profanity, or the like, e-mail me, and I will see what I can do. My address is in my profile.
