Surely Sony and Fox know that no matter what protection they put on there discs someone will find a way to crack it! I would of thought any company would realise it by now. There just doesnt seem to be a way to beat companies like Slysoft, they'll always find a way around it.

That's one of the most idiotic responses, like a kid actually accomplishing something even though dad or mom said he couldn't do it... L A M E ... LAME!!!
SO what is Fox gonna do? Pull their releases AGAIN....\
And about HD DVD? Who gives a fuck! Really, get over it people, just don't buy anything on HD DVD or Blu-ray and just buy DVDs and use them in your upconverters...or just watch HDTV and get an HD DVR...

What is with people thinking Blu-Ray is going to give up? HD DVD will not win or just co exist. Blu Ray is here to stay. I mean if fox wanted to go with HD DVD they would have been neutral for starters, but they chose Blu Ray, and will stick with Blu Ray because blu ray has so much more going for it thus it continues to outsell HD DVD every week. Why is that so hard for people who favor HD DVD to get in there tiny little minds? If HD DVD was so user friendly, they would have companys like Panasonic, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, and LG making HD DVD players. But they dont. And it's truly sad that you have to buy from only one company (Toshiba). Of course i hered Onkyo is coming out with an HD DVD player, and they do make great audio recievers however, there still not a selling brand that can take a new technology for years and years to come. All honesty I boughts an HD DVD player (a-30) just for Transformers, and few other movies. If I look at my collection of Hi def movies, I currently own 10 hd dvd movies, and over 100 blu rays. The reason for this is that I choose Warner Bros Blu, than HD DVD. Again it just makes more sense that Blu Ray will win. If tomorrow Blu Ray decided to sell player for only $98.00, I would think blu-ray has given up in sales, and is probably giving up in this format war. I think if HD DVD had a chance, they wouldn't confuse the whole concept of Hi definition players and movies. HD DVD will sell movies with DVD and HD DVD, and charge more for their movies, when the consumer really just wants the HD version. Whats the point of really having one side that plays the dvd version? In case the HD DVD loses, this way you still have the DVD version if you still cant afford a blu ray player!?!? Other point, why is Toshiba making 1080i players, true HD movies play at 1080p. Just to end this long frustrating point of view.... If you choose to stay with just HD DVD, fine. Just remember, your choics are limited, and your siding on a company that isn't nearly winning a format war.

I think you will find those numbers slowly beginning to change as we move into the new year. More games for the ps3 mean fewer gamers buying blu-ray discs (Sony's main edge over hd dvd in numbers) and the thousands of hd stand alone players sold this holiday will translate into more movies sold on hd dvd. Blu-ray is actually in trouble and sony knows it. Why else would they match the 5 free movies offer, lower the price of the ps3 once again and package spiderman 3 in the new ps3? They're getting nervous.

@chemteam:
Exactly. If it weren't for HD-DVD and Xbox 360 high sales, the PS3 would still be $600.

Kris I find your passionate ignorance so very disturbing I signed up to post.
When BluRay get’s to profile 2.0 they will actually start to have the features of HD-DVD.
The set of features that HD-DVD had on every player since release.
BluRay was not ready to compete with HD but rushed their products on the market. This is bad for customers.
You list a lot of companies that support Blue Ray but fail to point out that by any measure Toshiba by themselves is larger than all the other companies except Sony COMBINED.
I am really getting tired of the smug BD supporters taking advantage of customer ignorance to influence people.
The only difference is the base layer size of the disc and since 100+ gb storage on HDDVD is possible and all HD players have network ports compatibility is not an issue either. (Sorry BD fans)
HD is cheaper to manufacture both player and disc this is consumer friendly.
The BD superiority argument is based on technical merits that have absolutely no benefit to the consumer. If I presented you with 2 laptops one with a 30g hard and another with a 50 with no network port and said you need to store 15 to 28 gb of data on it what would you choose?

Once again, people, as Managing Editor I have to remind you to please refrain from making personal attacks. Talk about the issues all you want, but leave personal attacks out of it.
We published almost exactly the same amount of HD DVD and Blu-ray reviews (around 250 each) so far, and Blu-ray reviews get just as many hits as HD DVD reviews. Like it or not, the site has as many Blu-ray users as HD DVD users, though you wouldn't know it from the message boards. Obviously HD DVD users are more vocal but let's stay civil, okay?

Why do Fox, Disney stick with Blu ray?.............MONEY..........They have some kind of agreement and it has not expired yet. That's why they are so frustrated in every interviews. They blamed HD DVD camp, they blamed HD DVD supporters., they blame studioes, and most recently they blame Microsoft.

this must be the stage that $ony are on about, the part where they get there fans to deliberatly flame and spread fud about hd dvd...like the link i posted for the anandtech picture it clearly show bd disc sales in decline, hd dvd steadily climbing.......
fox and disney can be as bullish about bd as much as they like, it wont be long before they start looking at how much money they are losing BECAUSE they arent selling on hd dvd

@everyone
I apologise to anyone who found my post personally insulting @Kris respectively. Ignorant has a negative connotation in our society I mean only people must be unacquainted with, unconscious or unaware. Because I honestly believe that this rhetoric has to come from a lack of knowledge about the subject or just not a deep level of technological understanding. I make a living from understanding technology have for 20 years (I’m not old just started at 14). I am not saying I'm not biased but it is very difficult for me to understand how rational people could choose BluRay.
So far I have not heard one argument that does not involve storage size which is really not relevant
