I'm planning on buying Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on HD DVD from the UK so i can get it like a month earlier than we normally would in the U.S. The only thing is that I know regular DVD's and Blu-ray discs are region locked but i've been reading that HD DVD players are not region locked/coded so is this true? If so can u provide a link to a trusty site confirming this?
Also, once released in the U.S. i'm going to buy the gift set. Any ideas which version would be better(blu-ray or HD DVD)? I've been hearing that the blu-ray and hd dvd's are going to have different extra content on them.

According to Amir, one of the "insiders" at the AVS Forums (now temporarily closed because of the bad behavior of its posters) and a Microsoft Vice President, no HD DVD players (stand-alone or add-on) are region coded. Note that Amazon England and Amazon France list all of their European HD DVDs as "Region 2." But this, says Amir, is definitely in error. Any number of people here at the Message Boards have said that they have bought HD DVDs from Europe (and I have four of them myself), and they all play perfectly.

It is worth mentioning that regular DVD playback will be determined by the XBOX. So be you have a region 2 XBOX 360 it will only play region 2 regular DVDs but ALL HD DVDs.
