It's a nice offer but a bloody expensive price.

Yeah, $500 is still a huge price to pay for most. I'd rather the PS3 be $199 with no movies. That's more enticing.

Walmart will sell no where near the amout of the A3's that Amazon is selling right now. $499.99 for a ps3 is still expensive and in order to enjoy these movies you have to have a hdtv and I would say most people that shop at Walmart don't even own one yet.

I don't understand this statement when people say that the PS3 is still to expensive. It's only expensive to the people who don't own a HD player at all and are still on the sidelines about who will win this war. For the vast majority of people who do own HDDVD players they bought them when they were between 4 and 500 dollars and get this the 40 gig PS3 is still cheaper than a equally equiped HDDVD with 1.3 HDMI (A35). I can recall when I saw the first gen HDDVD players selling for 400-500 bucks cause I was going to get one. Bottom line is they are still going sell because it is a video game system as well. The real argument should be is standalone Blu ray players are still high, that's the reason why a person should not invest in Blu ray.

tony,
I did a search on Blu Ray players on amazon and the cheapest one is Samsung BD-P1400 for $340. It does internal decoding for all the HD audio formats so folks with analog input receiver will definitely enjoy this piece.

Sony BDP-300 for $400 now --

Prices of BD players are coming down and I won't be surprised if it comes down more. $340 is good price for a BD player considering that you don't have to upgrade your receiver to listen to different HD audio formats.

Most people in the United States work under poverty level wages. Most Americans live paycheck to paycheck with literally nothing to put away. Really, stop listening to the American hype and watching TV, which all paints the picture that we're all driving around in Hummers drinking fine wine. Yes, for the majority of Americans, $499 is too high, and so is $200 for most people. And with a slowing retail due to the majority having to tighten their belts because of high energy costs, it's only going to get worse.

rpruthee,
Nice links, I still prefere my PS3 because it's more than a Blu ray player, but I do want an ONKYO HDMI processing reciever. I looked at a Sony.....too expesive.

Tony Onkyo makes good quality equipment. If you want HDMI 1.3 and TrueHD and DTS HD you gotta get the 605, 705 or 805 models. As for Sony...they overcharge for everything.

Tim,
People have been working under the poverty level and paycheck to paycheck for years, it does not matter. Bottom line is that when XMAS comes it's a whole different thing. Do you honestly think that Little Johnny whom has been in his parents ear all year for a PS3 will be disappointed....NO. Just like people waited in line to buy them at $600 last year others will buy them at $400 this year. My point is that Sony, Toshiba, Wal*Mart, Target, Best Buy, Circuit City.....etc they know that this time of year people spend their last and sometimes go into serious debt, alot are cautious but also take that spending plung, that's why the major retailers and manufactures aggreesively go after you wallet this time of year. Last I checked I don't own a Hummer or sip wine but I do own a 1080p TV and a playstation3 and smart enough not to live like the Jones's.
