What DVDs are some of the worst offenders with edge enhancement out there?

The AVS Forums have a whole section devoted to just this subject (as well as excessive DNR). The posters there are sometimes a bit reckless about throwing around titles they feel are offensive, which could put some perfectly respectable HD DVD and Blu-ray transfers in an unnecessarily bad light. But at least it's an attempt to list a few suspect discs. And some videophiles are overly fussy about what they perceive as bad picture quality, so take their listings with a grain of salt.

Among standard DVDs that were supposed to be good modern transfers, I'd have to say "The Cell" is one of the worst offenders, followed by "Star Wars I". Although digital sharpening filters are used on all (or most) DVDs, the movies I mentioned above have been "edge enhanced" to the point where ringing artifacts are visible even on standard def CRTs at reasonable viewing distances.

I have not seen The Cell but Star Wars Episode 1 is pretty bad as Skyhawk said. I noticed it right away in the beginning when ObiWan and Quigon are on the federation ship as "Ambassadors" and that robot comes in (silver version of C3-PO) with a tray of drinks. That whole scene is so grainy and awful as well as the rest of the movie compared to all the other Star Wars movies.

I agree with how awful the first scene looks, specially when the droids open the door to where they are and the smoke is as grainy as it gets...

The best example of Edge Enhancement in Episode one is the final battle with Darth Maul. Watch when he ignites his double saber all along the edge of the blade it's weird looking and overly sharp.
