I'm never experienced a playback clitch on the ps3 yet. Luckily, apart from that everything else seemed to work normally.
Skyhawk,
There have been reports of users with v2.01 update for PS3 that they are open to some playback issues with POTC/AWE. So if you have v2.01 some strange things might happen until it is updated again to fix this problem.

make things up?...i believe the blu had cropping issues with black pearl also.......
which were mentioned on this very forum too......
if you support blu, why do you have hd dvd then?
bit hypocritical dont you think?
Black pearl also? Along with consistently every other Blu-ray title?
I'm sorry, but if not being a lying radical fanatic means I'm hypocritical, that's fine with me. And yes I do own an HD DVD player, and many titles in the format. I guess being duel format means that I find it distasteful when fanboys from either side spread misinformation to attack the other format. Luckily I don't have to jump in to defend HD DVD, because anyone who would post anything even remotely insulting about the format would be banned from this site before I could read the post.
Tony,
yes I know. I've read the threads on AVSForum. It seems some have problems, and others don't for some reason. As I mentioned, something odd happened to me while navigating the menu last night, but I was unable to recreate it tonight. Hopefully we'll have a firmware upgrade soon that will solve everyone's issues with this movie. Between the Toshiba HD-A2 and the PS3, I'm now a firmware upgrade expert! I guess that's just one of the things we early adopters have to put up with.

Update on this:
Bill Hunt, the "infamous" guy from Digital Bits says he talked to Disney, and Disney thinks may have to do with the TV model/player setting combination as they are unable as yet to reproduce it, and the fact that only a subset of users are experiencing the lockup problem. So for those having the problem, they now want you to report your firmware and player setting detail, along with the TV model to their customer support people.
http://www.thedigitalbits.com/#mytwocents
The way people were describing the problem, it makes sense and it likely an HDMI communication problem, as the settings are probably renegotiated during additional handshaking when frame rate and/or audio codec change from the previews to the "skull land crossbones" menu guy. I swear, half the firmware upgrades on both the PS3 and Toshiba HD-A2 seem to address various HDMI incompatibilities that result from implementation differences on various target devices. Of course this paragraph is only guessing, but that's my first guess and I'm sticking to it!

Despite any problems with the Toshiba players in the very beginning at least there was an ONLINE firmware upgrade to repair the issue... we didn't have to stand around twiddling our fingers waiting for sony to face up to the problemssssssss and send out a disk, THX..:-}

Thats the thing I love about HD DVD. It was well thought out from the beginning. It has the ethernet ports for updating, the interactive features have been there from day one and the picture and sound are on par with bluray...all that and the players are much cheaper than bluray players. I just don't get what people think in supporting bluray, especially the studios.

I must concur... and I'm sure the fledgling blu backers are scratching there heads as well as to why they immersed themselves in the deluge of crap that sony force fed them... from what it is rumored, there could be another studio jumping ship, THX..:-}

Just to correct this blatant attempt to spread misinformation, both the PS3s and the Samsung BD-P1200 that are affected by this problem have an Ethernet port and are upgraded via the Internet automatically. This fact makes that post above dumb. Real dumb.

Skyhawk, I think what he meant was there are a lot of bluray players that don't have ethernet ports so they can't download the fix that way. I'm assuming you ARE able to download the fix on a computer and put it on a cd, then run it on a bluray player?
About the waiting for the fix and twiddling your thumbs. Yes that would annoy me to no end BUT if they fix the problem in a reasonable time frame no harm done.

At the end of the day all this could have been avoided if we didn't have to worry about HDCP. Which has to be the stupidest way to prevent piracy ever and that applies to both formats.
