The Wii can play DVDs. You can hack it to do so. It has the ability to play DVDs it just isnt "unlocked". Basically, Nintendo didnt want to pay royalties for it, but they may plan on charging later on. The customers pay to unlock it so nintendo doesnt have to cover the cost. Microsoft did the same thing with the xbox...They sold a $30 or $40 unit(with a remote) that plugged into a controller port and allowed you to play DVDs.

What are you the blog police? How about the one you missed? or is it just because I'm Blu and you two are Red?

Not to get terribly off topic, if you noticed: I did get onto DJFunk earlier twice, once with an inappropriate comment on your user name and then with telling you what to do with the PS3. I also asked he refrain from making offensive-named threads.

Second, don't for a second think this has anything to do with which format I prefer. I have both a PS3 and HD A3. I enjoy them both. This is about making the message boards (not a blog, by the way) a place for all people to converse without being confronted with cursing and inappropriate comments. Or making sure the rules, as stated below, are followed.

The 'DVD royalty' is not much of an issue (per unit made/sold), and easily added to the player's cost, and paid by the end user = customer. (LH)

That's why Nintendo opted to leave many "features" out of the initial Wii version like DVD playback and 720p high resolution graphics. Because they wanted to keep the cost low and mainstream the Wii to masses. I honestly think 720p graphics are over-rated and I don't need DVD playback for I already have like 3 DVD players in the house (not including my 3 PC's) I welcome Nintendo's innovation over pretty graphics anyday and so do the 1.8 million new buyers a month around the world.

As for our disgrunted friend Red4Ever, you know that Japanese overall they care more about quality than quantity (although there are a few exceptions like Sony who only care about money, lol), you should know by now that Nintendo only cares about bringing quality in their franchise games, that's why you'll only see ONE, maybe two releases of their big franshises such as Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and now Smash Bros. Nintendo does not want their product to become low quality by releasing once every year. Nintendo takes pride on their product.

Look at the difference between Nintendo and another game powerhouse like EA. EA releases yearly versions of almost all their franchises, not only sports but shooting as well (Modeal of Honor, etc.) and most of their yearly games do not go beyond a rating of 6.0-7.0 in most game sites and that's a fact. They only care about giving the consumer a lot of low-quality games at a high price because they know the Western consumer will pay for anything because the Western consumer only cares about instant gratification. And that's also a fact.

As for Wii games, we all knew the Wii was aim for a variety of gamers raging from hard-core but mainly to the casual gamer. Nintendo always said that prior to launch, so you need to open your game-horizons and see the wide variety of good games the Wii has. Sure, granted Nintendo is taking slow-baby steps to get online, but the few online games are very good so far even with Nintendo's leash on online (Medal of Honor: Heroes 2, GH:III, Mario Strikers Charged, etc.) and the best part is that is FREE!!!

But anyway, I think all of us are going way out of topic here. )

The Wii may be fun to play but its graphics look like crap. My friend brought over Zelda to show me on my hi def tv. First thing he said was "now the graphics may dissapoint", lol. If you have a large hi def tv its real hard to justify buying a Wii when the Xbox and PS3 look so good. If Nintendo had put some work into the graphics engine and included Hi Def I would have bought one. I hope their next outing in the console world includes a powerful beast. I would pick them over Microsoft and Sony because Nintendo makes quality hardware (not much breaking down).

Yeah it's not a powerful machine. I'd say it's slightly better than an Xbox. The graphics can look good though. Have you played super mario galaxy?

Well, in that case you gotta consider that Zelda was originally a GCN game where the game controls were re-designed for Wii. To truly appreciate (or dislike, he he) the real potential of Wii graphics you need need to look at games specifically design for Wii from the ground-up like Super Mario Galaxy, Mario & sonic at the Olympics, Medal of Honor: Heroes 2, Red Steel (although game mechanics sucked), Super Mario Charged, Metroid, etc. All of those games and many more have excellent graphics and is not only me saying this but the game critics say it as well.

But at the end is matter of taste. Some prefer kewl graphics, other prefer game fun some like HD and some like BD (yuck! lol). The beauty is in the eye of of beholder. )

hey everyone,

Just thought I'd let you know...

www.HD-DVD.com and the HD-DVD.com forum was taken down. It now directs you to Amazon.com to buy HD-DVDs.

What a joke. Toshiba and Microsoft scam of the century!

Don't fall for it. I'm on your side, not theirs. I'm a consumer like you.

Ya know what, I can't stand the HD-DVD Forum. They are the biggest JO's I have ever seen. I wish I could get my money back on all the crap I bought. It's just not fair. I buy a Player and 83 movies for a format that is only good for one Year! I'm pissed!

We should start a class-action suit against Toshiba for doing this to us. I just don't think it's fair. I'm out well over 2,000 dollars. It's BS!

I'm done with them.

Your player and movies aren't going to suddenly implode, are they? You can still enjoy the movies AND use the player, right? So how is it only good for one year?

I have 2 rooms in my house with HiDdef setups. I also have a Home Theater in my basement. So what should I do, disconnect and reconnect my HD-DVD player from room to room? Now I'll own 2 different Formats, one which I have to carry around a player to watch.

Do you understand yet or should I keep explaining why I'm pissed?
