The PS3 has the dumbest, most bizarre MTV styled, trying-to-be-hip commercials ever imaginable. This has a lot to do with why many people don't buy it for games.

In contrast, the Wii TV ads are spot on 24/7 and they actually show NORMAL looking people of all ages and races playing games (what a concept).

Sony has been slow on releasing new and exciting titles. They are not helping by constantly pushing back the few titles that many gamers are waiting for.

Sony just figured out that the average consumer has no idea that PS3 plays Blu-ray movies. Do they have a market research department run by idiots? This could have been a very strong selling point from day one.

Overall I really like my PS3 as a Blu-ray player (I rarely buy games) but I think Sony needs to get on the ball and fire a lot of people to succeed.

Somelikeitnot, you are so right about SONY when it comes to marketing. When I bought a PS3 I thought I was the only one in the country to own one. They have adsolutely no clue as to marketing the PS3, though they can sell the heck out of a TV. We all know SONY makes great TV's. Peyton Manning would have sold so many people on Blu ray it's not even funny. But there is one area that I do disagree with you and that's the new PS3 ads. It does include the fact that the PS3 is a Blu ray player.

Yeah, but does it have to be a dude with a mohawk, a ring threw his nose, and tattooed images of serpents all over him doing the ads?

Kidding... I haven't seen the ads yet

This is true, I even saw one last night and the entire ad was for the PS3 as a blu-ray player. There was not even one mention of games or the fact that it's a game machine. Perhaps it's Sony's way of admitting they have no games to play on the PS3.

Tim,

I think that they are trying to take advantage of the fact that the PS3 is a Blu ray player in 6 million homes. But your right, the machine does lack somewhat in games, hopefuly that will change in 08'.

Daughter just bought future-son-in-law an XBox 360 for Christmas the top end model. I forget what she called it. Now he'll have that and the Wii she bought him last year and the PS2 he already owns. But no PS3. I have not influenced their thinking in the least.

When Stringer took the helm at Sony in 2005, the company , once a symbol of innovation with its Walkman line of personal stereos , had been stumbling, falling behind in flat-panel TVs and digital music players.

The turnaround plan that Stringer engineered , which included massive job cuts, plant closures and dropping unprofitable businesses , will be completed in March next year.

i guess thats what he did, or tried. lol. link previously posted by falcon
