Okay that’s funny, seems HD DVD supporters are now looking for the most desperate call for attention. This format war is looking more like a joke day by day now.

Blu-rayers are obviously blaming HD DVDers. HDers are probably claiming Blu's did it themselves to make HD DVDers look like villains. My personal feeling is that outside forces did it to make it look like HD DVDers wanted to make it look like Blu-rayers did it to make HD DVDers look like they did it to make Blu's look like they did it to make HDers look.... I'm sorry. My brain hurts.

... and all the people who hate Bill Gates say it was Microsoft's lack of security issues...

and it goes on and on.

As someone who is format neutral all I have to say is who cares???

What I do care about is the fact that my 5 FREE HD DVD's are now months and months over due.

And all I get from their 800 # is 'we will ship them in a few weeks.

-sigh-

Do you love Federal prison? It's a Federal crime to hack a website. This is so far from being funny.
The person who did this will be investigated by the FBI, go to a federal prison, and will be banned from using a computer for life.

federal prison? are you nuts!? how about guantanamo bay? camp x-ray? does anybody seriously believe you are actually going to prison for hacking the blu ray site??? who care about the blu ray site! yeah, it's all in good fun. unless sony makes their own prisons then thats another story...

I don't get why people are getting so uptight about this. Fanboys of both camps should stop insulting eachother over something they have absolutely no say over.

People go for the product that best suits their needs. For me that was HD DVD, I don't hate or have Blu-Ray titles an actually don't want to have them. I personally believe that Blu wasn't ready to be released yet and that they put it out there way to soon.

Everyone here have a happy HD holiday!

Do all of today's kiddies have no respect for the law and private property, or does the Internet just bring out the minority hoodlums among the population?

Most states have additional felony penalties on top of the federal laws that prohibit such "hacking", denial of service attacks, etc. and are investigated by the FBI. In addition to possible prison time (dependent on age, motivation, circumstance, etc.), the "hacker" is subject to some rather unpleasant civil litigation when they get out of prison. I can think of things much more fun to do that don't carry the risk of irreversibly screwing up the rest of your life.

Yeah, it's "all in good fun" until it happens to you. Some years ago somebody hacked into DVDTOWN and shut it down for several days. We lost a good deal of artwork, screen shots, and the like in the process, and we probably lost readers and sponsors, too.

Is keying a car in good fun? Painting graffiti on somebody's house? And do you like it when a virus infects your computer? The people who do these things think it's all in good fun.

I have to agree that hacking is never a joking matter. Working in the IT industry, I take it very serious, even the ones that seem funny or a minor offense. I say put the little punks in jail and throw away the key! If anything, hackers have hurt us all because we're forced into subscribing to virus protection which is becoming more expensive by the year. And with all the firewall and protection we have these days, there's still the a-hole that manages to find a way in. So yes, it should always be considered a serious offense even when it is meant as a joke . . . which it really isn't!

Hacking is not nice but it was fun to read about it because I remember what sony did to my computer and many more computers some years ago. As far as I know sony only had to take the bad software out of the computers and did not have to pay for any damages the program caused. I know there is a word to describe this ...............

Tonnloco,

I'm curious. What did Sony actually do to your computer? What damage was caused? What Sony software did you install that did this?

I don't use much Sony software, except for the Vegas film editing suite and DVD Architect and Sound Forge. These seem to work well enough.

I believe Tonloco is taking about the Sony Music CD's that installed a rootkit on people's computers, without their knowledge. It would install when you just went to play your CD and it disables your CD burning software and was a pain in the ass to get off your computer.

Punishment should fit the crime. Intentions and actual damage are different for different "hackings".

No computers for life? How about making them buy computers that only have the STUPID software I have to use at work!

How about spammers?!#%^*
How about all those (royalty free) "music" download sites? And when they're caught they just say
"what's the big deal"?

I say call your congressman!
