I currently own a 50" Sony LCD projection TV and it only has a DVI and component inputs for HD signals. I currently have my HD satellite system hooked up through the compenent input. Is there any compatability issues with either HD DVD or BD players when hooking them up with a HDMI-DVI cord? Do any of you have any experience with any issues or have you heard of any. Obviously, I want to make sure before I take the HD media plunge. I am looking at getting a Toshiba HD-A3 and the new Onkyo TX-SR605 to replace the 9 year old Sony receiver I have.
Thanks
Thanks

the receiver is pretty good/well priced, HDMI to dvi.. well that will only carry video of coarse. one time i connected a pc i think, and didnt like the image. Let see what replys you get.. if anything... i dont mind hooking up my a3 using -HDMI to dvI- just to see how it works. i still have the cable around somewhere.

I have an A3 hooked up to a 2004 65'' Mits rear projection using an HDMI adapter to a DVI cable. It works just fine. But, my TV was new enough that it used the later generation DVI which incorporated HDCP. If your TV has DVI without HDCP capability, then you may have problems. Then you will have to use component cables which it seems for the majority of HDDVD discs is not a problem because they are not invoking the copy protection downres feature. Although, you will not be able to get upconverted SD dvd through the component cables.

Deano86 is 100% correct, good post!
I echo Dean's experience, I used to have a 50" Rear projection RCA that was connected to my Toshiba A1...no problems whatsover as I had the newer style DVI that was HDCP compliant.
You won't get audio, but you can connect directly to your receiver using fiber, digital coax, or analog outputs from your high def source (Blu Ray/HD DVD). The ONLY way to get the True HD codecs is to have your deck decode it and use the analog inputs on your receiver.

Note: without HDCP, any HD signal sent thru a digital input (DVI or HDMI) will automatically reduce the resolution to 480p. You will be able to watch your hi-def discs, but not in true high-definition. This may or may not apply to your system (just an FYI note).
Edit: SAME THING for the analog Component input (without HDCP, max resolution is 480p) - sorry, forgot to add this too.
