Warner Goes to Sony

Christopher Cookson has been named the new president of Sony Pictures Technologies.

Cookson, who was chief technical officer as well as president of the Warner Bros. Technical Operations division, will oversee the development and implementation of Sony's technology policy and processes. Cookson holds more than 30 U.S. patents, including several involving DVDs.

The Hollywood Reporter found this story important enough to report. You can make your own conclusions. Obviously Sony believes Christopher Cookson will bring good things for Blu-ray and the development technology division.

Can someone please post USEFUL THREADS regarding USEFUL INFORMATION, besides REPEATED topics... regarding this wasted FORMAT WAR?

Execs change companies all the time, and when they are big companies it makes the news. This is just a story about an exec changing companies, that's all it is. Show me where there is anything related to Warner's, not it's former exec's, stance on Blu-ray/HD DVD.

If and when there is any actual news stories showing some actual evidence that Warner is going Blu-ray exclusive please post it. But this is even more unrelated than the previous stuff you Blu-ray fanboys have posted, and you were grasping at straws then.

Yes, I read it. Of course an exec stays for at least a decade or more with a company, that's normal, in fact, some stay their whole career. If they changed companies every week then it wouldn't be news.

But I think the question here is: why is he leaving Warner? Using your form a vague and sometimes baseless logic one could argue that this is actually bad news for Sony and Warner cooperating.

Just because I point out some very faulty conclusions on your part does not make me a HD DVD fanatic, but your reaction does certainly provide evidence towards the conclusion that you are an anti HD DVD fanatic.

Rediculous conclusion

If it were a Sony exec leaving to run Warner then it would be something to make conclusions about....but a Warner exec leaving to work at Sony...yawn...what's he going to do, convert Sony over to Warner's obvious preferred format which they have blockbuster exclusives on? (aka HD DVD) Doubt it, he probably wasn't too important in daily operations to have influence.

If we ignore this obviously bised post and poster, it will go away. It's already been pretty obvious the poster knew exactly what they were doing by posting it how they posted it, and further postings like the unrelated links and Bill Gates photos show their clear bias.

Two things happen....we ignore them until they go away or they continue to post until they run afoul of the board rules and get booted. Threads like this one will surely increase the likelyhood of the latter.

As the first one who said you were 'you know who' I feel I should comment on this. I meant superdynamite not bubblebathgirl, although some people think they are one and the same. And I was making a humorous point about your style of 'your just trying to justify your purchase' fanaticism that superdynamite also spews.

And look at it from the perspective of people who do think you are an alias: bubblebathgirl was banned from the forum so it would be really shocking if she hasn't attempted to re-join with an alias, and superdynamite has had several known aliases. So I don't think this is far fetched or paranoid.

I doubt this news is truly relevant to the format war. At least not directly. Cookson will now be charged with doing his part to aide the success of Sony. He will no loner have any direct influnce over Warner. Warner's execs are going to be looking out for the best interests of Warner. While it's certainly plausible that there can be some indirect influence, I'd be far more inclined to believe that there could be some strong moves made if a Sony Exec got a job at Warner. More like Moore being picked up by EA from Microsoft. However, even then I doubt we'd see EA stop making PS3 games as it may not be in the best interest of EA. And I'm sure the more EA succeeds, the more Moore will be compensated.
