Samsung will introduce a new DUO Blu-ray/HD DVD player

I can accept this, I guess. As long as this keeps HD DVD's coming. Their discs blow away anything I've seen from Blu Ray.

You should check out 300 on Blu-ray, it won Hi Def title of the year (for any format).

300 on HD-DVD and Blu-Ray look the same they use the same video encode.

THAT'S VERY TRUE THEY DO LOOK THE SAME IN BOTH FORMATS,BUT 300 LOOKS ALOT BETTER WHEN YOU DONT HAVE TO BUY IT FOR $40.00 FROM BLUERAY. BLUERAY BAD, HDDVD GOOD

yeah 300 looked the same on blu and hddvd thats why i dont understand why just the blu ray version won, maybe micheal bay the judge lol

I guess Samsung beleives in HD DVD. If not then why would they release a HD DVD/Blu Ray player LATER this year? See thats the key word LATER. When all the Blu Ray fans say that Paramount and Universal will jump ship. Yes the WB move hurst HD DVD, but this war is far from over. I think by Samsung doing this, they have sent a message into this battle field. Think about it, if HD DVD is dead like many of you think, then why would they waste their $ on this NEW DUO player?
It's just a thought.

Think about this IB... That Samsung player was already in the works, being designed for the last few months. The Warner HD-DVD announcement was just 3 days ago(!), and you're comparing these two facts together, and then posting your thoughts. For all we know, -that- Samsung combo player may get scrapped and never released ["later this year"]. Or maybe it will be released. But the Samsung announcement is not to be automatically connected to Warner's news.

As I mentioned in another thread, Samsung released their dual-format player late last year, the BD-UP5000. They just announced another dual-format player, the BD-UP5500, for this summer. The 5500 is supposed to be several hundred dollars less expensive.

I suspect that Samsung thought and continues to think that there is a market for dual-format players. For people looking to go purple but haven't the AV equipment to hook up two players, the dual-format player is ideal.

Not only that John but I believe this player with have the 5.1 analog outputs. For those of us that have older receivers or prefer the analog outputs, this player eliminates the hassle of a switchbox and 12 wires running all over the place.

Samsung's current dual-format player, the 5000, has analogue outputs. It also has internal decoders for Dolby TrueHD and DTS MA, although it won't be able to output these higher audio codecs until it gets a firmware upgrade, which Samsung promises in the next month or so. The firmware upgrade is also promised to improve the Profile 1.0 to Profile 1.1.

I believe that the cheaper Samsung to come this summer will omit the analogue outs.
