We were expecting a 20% share so this isn't that far off. Just remember HD DVD really has no day date releases for Jan so expect to see more of the same. These numbers were predicted before the Warner news and why is the BDA compairing a new release (3:10) to a release that came out before Christmas (Kingdom) and say that their release outsold the HD DVD release?

And HD-DVD music releases are lacking, compared to the regular Blu-ray releases...
such as BEYONCE EXPERIENCE comes to Blu-ray

Nice!

If Blu-ray wins, it will end up as the next Laserdisc and will never go mainstream because of all the problems and inconsistencies.

If HD DVD wins it can easily become a long lasting next-generation media format.

That's my prediction for the scenarios of both formats.

I'm glad that you don't predict things for a living.

Well, it's certainly possible that Blu-ray could become "the next LaserDisc" [niche format without mass support], since DVD is quite popular, and download/streaming threaten to be a factor (to a certain extent, not for the masses), but unlike LaserDisc players, I expect Blu-ray player PRICES to keep going down, so that within another year you will see $150 to $199 budget Blu-ray players - WHICH NEVER HAPPENED with the LaserDisc players. Pioneer did offer a few cheaper LD players in the early years ($299 to $499) of the 1980s, but the prices later increased and were never at a budget price again.

Also, the LaserDisc format was never advertised as much as Blu-ray is now, which will have much more ads to follow. And, LaserDisc barely had a rental market, with some (but not all) Blockbuster and Hollywood Video stores that starting renting the discs in 1990s. Before this, only an occasional video store offered LD rentals in the 1980s, such as VIDEO CONCEPTS, where I rented LDs (a mall location) for many years until they went bankrupt before the decade ended.

Also, Blu-ray is HIGH DEFINITION, and LaserDisc wasn't (except for the few Muse Hi-Vision LDs, available in Japan only, in the format's final years - which required a special player).

Blu-ray, whether you want to support it or not, will definitely become the main HD disc standard over the coming years, and should grow much larger worldwide than LD ever did... but will still have to overcome standard DVD, a tough "battle" and task ahead!

So yeah, let's keep waiting another year or so to get a cheap blu-ray player, and lets hope, no, lets pray that it actually is 'fully functional' in ALL means...

I hear yea! This new fangled techno-crap is for youngin's. It was with great trepidation that I lately replaced my 8 track player in my 67 Mustang Fastback with one of those crazy CD players. My 8 track broke a few years ago
