I actually switched to a PS3 after owning an XBox 360 a few months ago. I gave the XBox a good solid chance...spent several hundred dollars on downloads....several hundred on games and accessories...never even had the red ring of death....

Which as a sidenote, you have to own A LOT of accessories with the XBox...seriosuly? No battery pack? For real? Out of the box I am out buying Duracells to power it up like it is Easter morning or something!

Seriously...no battery pack....I am 30. Minus a TV remote, my things doesn't use Duracell's anymore. They plug in somewhere. They have internal battery packs.

Anyway, the nickeling and diming didn't bother me. After all, XBox did give you the ability to upgrade things. Every problem did have an accessory that could fix the problem. Didn't like popping in batteries, you could buy a battery pack. No problem.

But how much money would I have paid to make that things just quiet down for five minutes! $100? $200? $300?

It sounded like a weed wacker! After two hours, I was wondering where I supposed to put the gasoline. Kerosene? Etrhanol? Who knows!? Sweet mother of God! It's louder than a refrigerator. Why is that?

Plus, as time went on with the admittedly superior XBox Live service....I just got tired of being called racially innapropriate epithets by 12 year olds.

Face it. Between it being noisy, requiring little Duracell batteries, and the fact that it was loaded up with teenage kids.....XBox kinda' was a toy.

True, it's online is superior, but it's full of 12-year old nitwits. I have had a very different experience on PS3. Much older...almost to the point of being boring. Truly.

Between the fact that it is whisper quiet, and the fact that online games are....pleasant and polite. I don't know. I am sold on the PS3. I think it may be the fact that I am old and lame. I'd rather play Motorstorm online and finish up a race with "Good game" than play Halo and explain to an 11 year old that "Moon Chicken" isn't even a real racial epithet.

I keep hearing this rumor that my PS3 (Blu-ray player and HT media center with Internet access) also plays games... hmm. I'll have to do more research on this sooner or later. It would be cool if my PS3 also came with a free game console built inside!

BTW Greenhouse...one of those "hidden" cost you may not like about the ps3..is when the battery in the "non rumble" controllers burns out.... you cant replace them... so be ready to hock up 50 more dollars for a new one..[even though you may have to do it anyway for Dual shock controlers when they come out]. and theres many rechargable batt option with the 360 not to mention extended warrantee services specifically for the ring of death issue

What kind of fool doesn't get something fixed for free - even if you wanted to get rid of it?! My 360 (second replacement already) died last month (RRoD). I bought a 360 Elite (it is SWEET!), and sent-off my other console to get repaired - which I just got back this week. I'm selling it while it still works - and while it's under warranty. I'll take a $50.00 - $100.00 loss, but my new console has the falcon processor, so I don't expect problems. It runs quieter, cooler - and it smells great (just kidding)!

Anyone contemplating a new XBOX 360 console, be sure to get one with a 175w power supply. If it says "203w" - it's the older (version 2) console - even if it has the HDMI port! It's on the label on the side.

A few things missing here as well:

1. Total sales since launch.
XBOX 360: 17.7 Million
PS3: Estimated 9 million (Hope to meet 11 million by March) (Many sold in Japan which generally is giving the 360 a hard time because it is from the US)

2. Game Sales.
PS3 has no really great games going for it and in the end that is what will matter. In the top 10 (all platforms) of December XBOX 360 had 4 titles (Including the no. 1 spot). The PS3 had 0. In 2007 (whole year) top 10 XBOX 360 had 3 titles in top 10 (Including the no. 1 spot.) The PS3 had 0.

Henning, you should stick to writing movie related news. You clearly don't have a clue what you're talking about when it comes to gaming.

With your logic you could say that americans are giving the PS3 a hard time because it's from Japan? Why is it that when games like Ace Combat are released the XB360 sales are on par with the PS3? Maybe the japs have another taste in games, US (trigger happy americans)=FPS, rest of the world not so much.

World sales clearly show that the PS3 is selling on par and better than the XB360. It's only US, UK, and Australia where the XB360 is selling better than PS3. XB360 sales are dying in most of Europe.

You say the PS3 hasn't got any games? Are you for real? Since november the amount of great games are more than enough to keep you busy for a long time.

Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty 4, Uncharted, Ratche&Clank, Warhawk, Heavenly Sword, Folklore, Guitar Hero 3, Singstar, Motorstorm, Skate, Unreal Tournament 3, Orange Box, Rock Band, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, DiRT, Oblivion, FIFA 08, Burnout Paradise, DMC4, etc..

http://www.gamespot.com/games.html?type=top_rated&platform=1028&page_type=games

Total XB360 sales are at 16.5M (not 17,7) and PS3 sales at around 9.5M. If the trend continues the PS3 could catch up with the XB360 by early 2009 or even before that if mega titles like MGS, Final Fantasy, Grand Tourismo, also titles like Killzone 2, Resistance 2 and Little Big Planet, The Agency, InFamous, SOCOM, Tekken 6, Motorstorm 2, The Getaway 3, Wardevil, Haze, White Knight Chronicles, GTA-IV, sell tons of PS3s.

The difference in great games is a bad excuse now Henning, also devs having dev. probs on the PS3 are a thing of the past. http://www.psu.com/Developers-struggle-with-PS3--A-thing-of-the-past-Feature--a0002324-p0.php

Both the XB360 and PS3 are great gaming machines so stop the nonsense that if you like to play games then you should go for the XB360, that's just to fanboy'ish of you Henning.

Edit: This is from the same article you linked Henning.
"BIZ: What does it say about the PS3 that it still couldn't break a million units in December when every other platform did?

AF: Actually, of the next-gen systems it realized the greatest month-over-month increase at 70+% of November unit sales. Of the ongoing viable systems in the marketplace, its growth was only "bested" by its sibling, the PS2. The software slate for the PS3 is still ramping up, and that is what we know will truly drive those big sales increases."

It is very interesting the comments of some PS3 owners which make perfect sense in regard to the format war: The main reason (and probably the only one) Blu-Ray is "winning" this format war (at least in the US) is because of the PS3. If it hadn't been for it, the format would have been doomed a while back. A lot of the PS3 owners only use their PS3 for movie viewing, my brother-in-law has both, PS3 and XBOX 360 and his PS3 sits in the living room as a Blu-Ray player and the XBOX 360 in the game room for game entertainment.
