Ummm...I believe Sony lost something to tune of 530 Million dollars on their TV division last year. Though I believe Sony is blaming their rear projection units which they are now discontinuing.

A few years ago I bought a 50in sony sxrd for 3500 and LESS than a year later it was down to 1500. Great tv but I moved across the country and had to pretty much give it away as I couldnt sell it without taking a huge loss and ups wanted 1400 to ship it. I tried contacting sony for a new box and they told me I was s.o.l. thats when I lost a lot of faith in sony as a company. on the other hand if there trend of constantly cutting costs continues I will hopefully be able to pick up a ps3 for 250 bucks by christmas. that is if there is any good games by then.

As a gaming system PS# will ALWAYS be sunordinate to the other systems ,especially to multi system owners, for something as simple as ,THE ABSENCE OF VIBRATION
Simply stated, the stupidest thing they ever did was release the system without a rumble pack controler. As a gamer..being able to know when youve been hit, driving of the road ect.. is probably more important than most of us knew since weve been so used to having the feature.
Sony faced some legal trouble with that one, for violating some patent. it's settled now and they released the dualshock3 which is a sixaxis with vibration.
Quote:You haven't really checked about that have you. they can be replaced, though the tutorial on how to do so is not very accurate. after you unscrew 5 bolts you have to push the analogue sticks down. not everyone can figure it out alone. i was told how it works (the part about the analogue sticks), because i couldn't do it myself. thought i opened it just for a clean-up.
BTW Greenhouse...one of those "hidden" cost you may not like about the ps3..is when the battery in the "non rumble" controllers burns out.... you cant replace them... so be ready to hock up 50 more dollars for a new one..[even though you may have to do it anyway for Dual shock controlers when they come out]
here's where you can buy one or tell a friend in need http://www.consoleshop.com/product.php?productid=16765&cat=306

After all Sony doesn't label their consoles like PC companies do, so for all we know (as an example) PS3 used to have at launch Intel Centrino Dual Core 2 processors but their "reduced ship" might now be an old Intel Celeron (I know those are not the chips but is just an example).
shows how much nothing you know about the ps3. it uses the Intel Cell processor. always has, and hasn't changed. the production cost was lowered once they switched from 90nm to 65nm Cell chips. use google or wikipedia unless you want to be laughed at for such wide-spread knowledge you lack.
though i admit the ps3 does not suffer on the developer support side. very few games got the needed attention on the ps3 versions and they sold even worse, because of it. the later games from the end of the year (Assassin's Creed, CoD4, R&C:TOD) really have shown that the ps3 is at least as capable as the 360, and in some areas (like the graphics of R&C:ToD) even more.
But until Home comes out it certainly can't compete with the 360 on the online service ground. and even then it will be just beginning to catch-up on that, where it's far behind.

I am sorry, but if you are selling product at a loss in order to make your numbers look good to your share holders, those share holders tend not to want to be share holders for much longer when they see the losses on their stock portfolios...
Don't get me wrong, my first color TV was a Sony and I have had a great deal of respect for the technology and innovation they have brought forth into the arena of consumer and professional electronics, over the years...but to base the future of the company on a game console, that is being heavily subsidized is just plain insane...
Having had the pleasure and misfortune to experiment with both the Xbox 360 and the PS3, I have to lean towards the Xbox as a more complete gaming experience.

Sony's problem with PS3 sales is not the XBox 360 or the Wii. It is their own PS2 system which nearly sold as many as the PS3 did last year and continues to do so. Why would game studios jump on the PS3 bandwagon when they can produce games for less on the ps2 and sell even more per title?

The real problem is that Sony lied to people (just like they did with the PS2) when the over hyped the specs...
With the PS2 they claimed outrageous rendering capabilities and forgot to mention that it was without AA and with AA on it was only about 1.5x the power of the Dreamcast.
With the PS3 they showed demos that they never told anyone would be unplayable. Now it turns out the PS3 can't keep up with the 360 when advanced T&L are used so the 360 atmospheric lighting is much better than that of the PS3.
Of course all of this doesn't even take into account their rootkit incident.

You gamerz are so cool! Can you recommend games for the PS3 I could someday try (when I have the time)? How about the 360? Our son has the 360 (to keep him away from my HT setup!). Our daughter has a Wii thingy. But no guitar hero please. That's the lamest thing I've every seen in my little life time to date. The fact that it's sold so many units just tells me something about today's "gamerz" crowd. Oh boy.

elterrible said,
Do you own a PS3, have you played a PS3 game, do you know anyone that owns a PS3, have you touched a PS3, furthermore do you even know what a PS3 looks like? Because judging by your statement you have no clue as to what a PS3 can do, and for the record I do own one in fact I've bought 2. The XBOX doesn't even have WiFi. In order to get a wireless conection you have to fork out an addtional $100. As I recall you have to spend an additional $200 more bucks just to get a unit with HDMI. Does the core unit even support Dolby TrueHD? By the way this is all on the entry level 40 gig PS3 ($400). To get an equally equiped XBOX 360 your looking at $600. The processing power can't be match and 2008 will prove that. Oh and I forgot the PS3 network is FREE.

kucoloco, I've made my living playing guitar and teaching for many years until I got into other "artsy" stuff. If this silly "press the plastic key on the fake plastic guitar when the video tells you" actually got kids interesting in playing the instrument for real, I'd support it. But anecdotally this hasn't been the case from by observations. It's the continuation of the "Western Civilization's" motto: "if you can pretend to do something and it doesn't take work and time, why do the real thing"? Frankly I see this nonsense as actually damaging. But that's my opinion, so take it like all opinions on the Internet.
Games I like are on the PC. I enjoy Half-life 2 for example, with a sci-fi theme and interactive elements in the environment. The wife on the other hand would need a Sims 2 type of game on a console, complete with accessories!
