Is it worth buying the 2-disc edition DVDs of the Star Trek movies that are currently available?

Depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking to enjoy the movies and some extras, sure. If you're looking for a completely immersive experience...no. The Motion Picture only includes the new Director's Cut and not the original theatrical. The Undiscovered Country is only a new cut, not the original. The extras are rather superficial, from what I remember. (The trailer for Generations isn't included.)

Are you a mega-Trekkie or a casual fan? Cuz, frankly, as a mega-Trekkie, I know more about each of the movies than is actually put on the DVD's.

In addition to Jason's info... The ST 2-disc SpEd DVDs have usually been just $9.99 for awhile now (Best Buy, and online sites like Amazon), and unlike the earlier DVD editions, these new SpEd sets are remastered in Anamorphic 16x9 widescreen. And who knows how long it will be before they are released again on hi-def disc.

I've seen them for a while (and bought Khan) for $7.50 in most Wal-Marts (yes, W-M), I'm more of a casual fan who is beginning to enjoy...but what I was going for is, is the A/V quality good enough and does it have decent extras? Cuz I know of Star Trek and double dippin....

Yeah, the extras are alright. The camera work on ST III extras is a bit spotty, as far as I remember. I believe all the movies include commentary tracks. Lots of deleted scenes and the like also (particularly of the Rock Men from ST V). Video wise, again it's been a while, I never had a problem with them. Remember, some of the films are working on 30 years old and aren't going to look fantastic. Same goes with the audio. No major problems as far as I remember.
