You may ignore it, or even deny it... but the fact is that we are in a Recession.

Given cramped family budgets for this new year, we'll see less & lesser activity on luxury spending-spree by the average consumer. This includes electronic gadgets taking a backseat.

The only sure-thing to sell out, during the 2008 Holiday Season -are not Blu Ray (or HD-DVD) products, videogame consoles, or hdtv sets... While the DVD format will continue to STRONGLY DOMINATE BEYOND 2009, this is the only other product WORTH getting before year's end...

http://www.dtv.gov/consumercorner.html#faq26

Get yours NOW. If you don't need one, get it for your friends (who can't afford, or care for the hidef hype).

Wildcard scenario:
FCC delays the transition again (already did TWICE), due to 'slow' adaptation of the masses to convert (or buy the adapter) & this WILL REALLY SLOW the progression of a hidef player to every household (including the not-so-urgent purchase for a hdtv set). There's no need for it. The majority can't afford it (along with their laundry list of mortgage, gasoline, groceries, & other expenses). DVD format prevails, indefinitely.

I can live with that... for now.

xplaytendo,

You have a good point, the trickle down effect from this recession will hit the HD market. People are staying away from the housing market let alone buying HDTV's and buying in to the next HD format. As a working family man with 3 kids I've noticed the price of food has gone up horribly, milk has gone up from $3.39 a gallon to $3.90 a gallon. I still can enjoy a Blu ray or two, but now it's like ok who's got the best deal for my money for Blu ray movies.

EBAY is another factor. affecting sales!!! plenty of goods changing hands, that are not accounted for. who knows how much of it is stolen.. even if new. lol

i purchased my ps3 one week ago, and already got 13 blu movies NEW!! and 8 more coming... half i payed 13-16 shipped. and the other half newer titles, never payed more than 18-19 shipped. these same movies are 27.99 on amazon and 34.99 in retail stores.

i have several BB gift cards, but ebay prices are cheaper still, over all

i agree people are watching there spending. I have a hddvd player it works great for me, i thought of buyn a ps3 for blu ray but i think the way things are going right now with the markets im just gonna hold off. Im happy with dvd, having an hddvd player for me is just an added bonus to upconvert my old dvds. dvd is gonna be around for a long time and i dont see it going away in the next 5-10years, i think hd/blu is just gonna cover a small market. i dont think it gonna me as mainstream a people think

This is like a popular movie theme. "If I can't have my girl (HD DVD), then no one else will have her either!" - "stab, stab... shoot, shoot". (Girl is dead). Entertaining perhaps at first, but it's getting a little worn.

To be honest, I didn't know people thought like this in real life. Perhaps I should give those 1,348 movies another chance.

To be honest, I didn't know you're SELF-CENTERED ENOUGH to TWIST this into a fanboy rant!

What a surprise. I can ALMOST READ the upcoming flames from the above poster....

I thought, at first this was a joke... but I guess this is a legit auction of the spectrum band. Through ebay! This is another reason why the download service (of data, sd & hd format) will become cheaper by 2009: No chokehold on the medium by the cable company, or satellite service.

It is a joke of sorts... the eBay thing I mean. But yes, just like other spectrums have been sold to the highest bidder by the FCC, so are these bands.

Quote:
they aren't allowed to publicly disclose anything about the auction or their bids before the auction's over, lest they forfeit the whole shebang.

As yet we don't know who will win, nor what the winning companies will do with spectrum.
