Hello Gents. I know some of you have been very helpful in the past with tv help. Well, Im shopping for a bedroom tv. no more than 42' ..I would say.
I was looking at this Samsung LNT4065F or maybe this?? Toshiba REGZA 42HL167 ........ but nothing is set in stone yet. Please recommend a brand or details i might consider. Like a Pioneer, Tosh or whatever and or why. also websites that might help.
Thanks
kuco

Definitely buy the Toshiba over the Samsung (as that 4065F model, among others by them has had "HDMI issues", according to various complaints and threads on the AVSForum).
Toshiba LCDs have excellent processing, and no known major problems, although a few people say their color can have too much saturated 'green', but this is minor and can be adjusted somewhat in the main menu.
Of course, my personal LCD brand of choise is Sharp, and JVC.

Price-wise, the 1080p 40" LCDs don't cost much more than 720p models, although for a bedroom environment 720p is really all you need. With discounts, you could find a great deal on a 720p model, as well as everyday low prices for these at Wal-Mart/Sam's Club, Costco, Target, BB, CC, Sears, internet.
A specific model I recommend is the Sharp D64U series - much improved over the older D62U series (from 2006), with the same quality as their higher-priced D82 and D93 line. With it's 'Film Mode' setting enabled, Sharp LCDs pass 1080i deinterlacing tests for both film and video-based signals. Sharp models have a little more 'detail' (and clearer) than most similar-priced LCDs brands. They own some proprietary tech in LCD (w/patents etc), and build their own glass at their Japanese plants.
JVC doesn't make their own glass, but have lower prices on 720p models, and a superior GENESSA 32-bit processing chip, which allows it to easily pass the lab deinterlacing tests. If you live near at Fry's Electronics (mainly in CA and TX), they carry JVC at the lowest prices. Sharp LCDs are found at mainly retailers (along with Toshiba, Samsung), and Sony (higher-priced usually).

kucoloco... that particular Sharp model (D62U) is now 2-years old, and have been much improved with others in their current lineup, including the D64U series, D43 series, and the one specifically for video game use (GP1).
37" is fine, but the 40-42" LCDs are usually about the same price (720p). Note: Sharp doesn't make 40" LCDs - they jump from 37" to 42".

Well I used to have the 52" D62U Aquos and it had some banding issues (most people didn't notice it until I pointed it out and you could only notice it in dark scenes). Other than that the picture quality was pretty good. This D62U series has been discontinued because of the banding issues I assume since they got so many complaints. The new series D64U is supposed to be improved although I personally haven't done much research on it. My bro has the 37" D43U (I believe?) in his bedroom and he loves it. I checked it out myself and noticed no issues with the image.
All things considered Sharp Aquos LCD's are very good except that D62U series which had the banding issues. After I returned my D62U I almost purchased the D92U 52" which is VERY good but then I saw my Pioneer Plasma and that was that. They are actually very close in picture quality but the blacks were a little bit better on the Pioneer but not by much.
Would I recommend a Sharp Aquos? Yes. Stay clear of the D62U series though.
