Kuco,
I own the Toshiba REGZA 42HL167 and I LOVE it! It is sharp, has good blacks, an understandable menu system, and very specific color adjustment options, although mine was pretty close to my likeing right out of the box. My only complaint is with the sound bar which I find to be a little (not much) hollow at times when watching cable (no biggie, I just switch to the Denon receiver in that case). It integrates seemlessly with my A-35 (natch!) and I'm certain a BD product would do just as well.

Definitely buy the Toshiba over the Samsung (as that 4065F model, among others by them has had "HDMI issues", according to various complaints and threads on the AVSForum).
That's a matter of opinion. I have a samsung 46-inch hdtv & LOVE IT! I've seen the Toshiba line. NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL! BRAVIA line is TOO EXPENSIVE for what the other brand names offer, at a cheaper price.
In other words, ANYONE WILL SELL YOU A MODEL, but EVERYONE WILL HAVE A DIFFERENT TASTE.
You can only decide PERSONALLY, watching HD loop sample at a showroom, with DIVERSIFIED selection.
Only 42-inch? DON'T BOTHER WITH 1080P, a waste of money... since difference in clarity (again, based on your own opinion) does not show on 50 inch tv's... or bigger.
Consider CONTRAST RATIO, COLOR SATURATION/CALIBRATION, & REFRESH RATE (among many other issues... besides looking at the brand name & the 1080i/1080p mess). Consider the Consumer Reports reviews, including amazon.com reviews.
Best of all: TAKE ALL THESE OPINIONS (and opinion of others) with a grain of salt.
SEE FOR YOURSELF.
Best place to try a hdtv is Sam's Club or Costco (or whatever Warehouse Membership Store offers you a FULL REFUND on electronic returns). Choose one. Take it home. Try it for a week. It's worth the hassle, considering the cost.

So which one did you finally decide on? I had no opinions since I bought the cheap 32" Dynex TV for $480 at BB, so no real knowledge here...
...which, by the way, is not a great TV, but it was cheap.

After extensive research and reviews form Cnet and Consumer reports, I bought the Panasonic TH-42PX77U. I think this is by far the best 42" Plasma on the market. Has an anti-glare screen which is amazing as my 4 year old's first comment was that she could not see herself in the tv. they make a 1080p model in this series, but not worth it as you won't notice the difference unless you are fairly close to the tv and even at that point, most folks would not. The colors and deep blacks are awesome on this set. Standard tv also looks very good, even stretched to fit the screen. My opinion is that no LCD can compare except for the very high end models which are quite expensive. One downside is that there are only 2 HDMI inputs. Sound is also okay, but should be more than sufficient for a bedroom. If you consider going Plasma, this is a great choice.

Toshiba LCDs have excellent processing, and no known major problems, although a few people say their color can have too much saturated 'green', but this is minor and can be adjusted somewhat in the main menu.
wolfen actually agrees with the above. I wouldn't touch Samsung with a ten-foot pole. Believe it or not as an owner of both a 50" and 60" Pioneer plasma, I actually have... (dare I say) a 47" Vizio Gallevia LCD 1080p in my game room. I've had it for months now and Gears of War NEVER looked better.
