Yes, I also prefer plasma, and purchased the 50" Pioneer KURO 768p model in December, with the superior processing chip (accurate deinterlacing and scaling), and amazing contrast ratio.
But kucoloco wants an LCD, so that's why I posted my main preferences - Sharp, Toshiba, JVC. Samsung does have some very good models, but the "65F" series has well-known major issues with HDMI compatiability and signal drop-outs, and if anyone wants an AVSForum link to this I can provide it (also mentioned on PCWorld's website review).
The Sharp D64U series is their main "low priced/great quality" model line out now, with several sizes available, and significant improvements to the 2-year old D62U line - sorry kucoloco, I don't know why you saw a higher-priced D62 unit (maybe the store paid more for it).
By the way, SHARP is now releasing yet another NEW 2008 LCD line (w/17 different models/sizes).

mv im pretty decided on this: Sharp Aquos LC42D64U 42" 1080p LCD HDTV
wolfen, i didnt do much searching.. when i picked up the samsung. is ok, but even though i dont have cable hooked to it, when i use it all day.. like watching movies.. then 360, then movies, and or ps3. my sound via hdmi sometimess cuts off. or video.. and have to turn off then on.
only happens, when i push it hard and switch connectons several times.. all while being used most of the day. has only happened 3 times in 1 yr. imagine if i had cable hooked to it.could prob be worst
Loverboy... Should I be looking into.. 42' plasmas instead??.. or those only come bigger?

kucoloco,
If you're a serious gamer...don't go with plasma (potential burn-in). If you enjoy deep black levels and excellent contrast for satellite and movies...go plasma. If you want the best of both worlds, Toshiba comes pretty close with their Regza line.

Kucoloco... if you sit close enough (within 8 feet), and since you prefer playing video games, I suggest the 1080p LCD. You'll appreciate both the higher resolution, and can play the games with no fear of image retention developing during long sessions.
Of course, most LCDs lack the higher true contrast of a plasma (especially Pioneer or Panasonic models), but newer ones are much better than a few years ago. Finally, LCDs run a little cooler than plasma, so your electricity bill benefits, although it's really not much more a month for a plasma (compared to LCD).
Overall, I recommend the Sharp for your situation.

1080p difference versus 1080i in a 42-inch hdtv IS NOT distinguishable. I've seen it from 5-12 feet in distance & DOES NOT MERIT THE EXTRA EXPENSE.
Moreover, DON'T BELIEVE the hype over 1080p.

xplaytendo... today there are NO native '1080i' TVs, except for a few Hitachi plasmas (as Sony's past 30" & 34" 1080i CRTube HDTVs are no longer being produced, although you might still find a Samsung or Philips 30" native 1080i Widescreen CRT still available).
ALL other HDTV displays will convert a 1080i signal to it's native resolution, either 720p (& 768p) or 1080p, and 1080p has HIGHER RESOLUTION (since it contains over 1 million more pixels!) than a 720p model, and in my opinion most people [maybe not you?] can tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 42" or larger TV, from up to 8 feet away.
Has nothing to do with '1080i', - I'm talking about the NATIVE resolution of the TV, whether being 720p (1080i) or 1080p, and you should already know that a 1080p model has DOUBLE the number of pixels as 720p, and twice the resolution... which CAN be noticeable if sitting within 8 feet.
