Hey DJ if you ever make it to Pittsburgh, who knows to film one of your movies, let me know I would love to be an extra. What program do you use when you are writing a screenplay?

I just use regular old Word from office 2003. I am not that worried about format, I know it and use it, but you don't need those $200 programs to write a screenplay. If you want to write, just write. Format doesn't matter it is story and content.

And just in case anyone asks, I edit on Sony Vegas. I may hate Sony for the BR, but their editing software rocks nuts.

DJFunkmasterG,

Let me know what the locations are so that I may check out your movie.

Edit: Federal Hill looking over the Inner Harbor at night is gorgeous.

I have never seen Fed hill at night, when i shot there it was during the day, I need a wide shot of the harbor because the original plan was to CGI some kind of explosion going off in the city, but the explosion looked cheeky in Deadlands, so I did another effect to achieve the same result.

I was going to ask that!

I know Vegas very well, along with Acid Music Studio and Sound Forge. Sony DVD Architect on the other hand is just "OK" for a "prosumer" kind of authoring program. Once finished the creation, it's best to go Sonic Scenarist for actually creating the media format ... again IMO.

I really like Vegas, and I do use DVD arch 4.0 to make screeners and samplers for the cast & crew to watch. In fact I just made a batch of 25 last night to show the cast & crew what the film currently looks like.

I don't worry about the final output, I will just render the project when finished in the highest quality possible, and then I will send it to the distributor to make it into a DVD that he can sell. However, I may fork up the $2500.00 to get the 1000 HD-DVD's made so that the first copies sold will be HD-DVD exclusive.

Progress report

Hey everyone,

I thought I would give you all a big heads up on whats happening with Trapped, my newest zombie flick, which will be a part of the feature film project... ZOMBthology and have a separate extended version release as well.

March 14th and 15th we went back to the Hagerstown 10 Cineplex and shot the remaining interiors and began finishing the exteriors. Because the weather was not very cooperative we will be returning to film more of the films exteriors in the next 30-45 days. March in Maryland is not very cooperative... in 2006 we had 80 degree weather and we shooting the demise of the people seeking shelter in Deadlands, here in 2008 we were freezing our asses off, trying to keep things going so we could finish up.

The nice part is, I began cutting together the footage we have shot so far and everytime I sit down to cut things together I sit back and says thanks 100 times for the crew I have had on this project. From the DP, to the Producers, to the Actors, and Make-Up artists these guys have pulled together to make something I think zombie fans will really enjoy.

When I found out Trapped was going to be the first film played in Zombthology I said "well, I better cut this together so it starts things off with a bang." So I began tightening up many aspects of the story in editing. This project has been so much fun, and those of you who are fans of DEMONs and RETURN of the LIVING DEAD will have a huge treat when you catch Trapped.

Last night I was editing together the first zombie attack and I sent it off to the ZOMBthology producers and one of the old producers from my first film Deadlands: The Rising. The ZOMB producers were loving everybit of the action and gore... however, it was Brian Wright, from Deadlands who called me up and said... "Jesus Christ dude... are you going to give the audience time to breathe and relax?" He was referring to how intense the scene was cut together. He further added, he couldn't believe how big the film felt knowing how small the budget really is, but he mostly noted the references to ROTLD1, which is one of my favorite films.

So, at this point I am about 60 days from complete picture lock on the short version of Trapped, I will then send it to the ZOMBthology folks to have cut into that film and then work begins cutting together the Trapped, extended directors cut.

I will keep you all posted and updated as thing progress.

Dj.

P.s. if you liked Deadlands, you are going to LOVE Trapped.

As an indie horror filmmaker as a hobbie, I wouldn't mind seeing my first film on HD-DVD, but it wouldn't be worth it as it was filmed in SD. Now my second film I am working on would definitely look nice on HD-DVD.

Might we who are interested in indie horror be advised as to where we might be able to view your movies?

Hey DJ, I don't know if you would be interested in this. But up in Erie PA(www.eeriehorrorfest.com) they hold this Horror festival every October. It is for filmmakers, game developers and screenwriters. They bring in some heavyweight actors and actresses from the horror movie industry. Thought maybe you might be interested in something like this.
