I was seriously looking at this combo player but when I read about the issues I backed off. However, it has been reported that on February 2nd Samsung will release a firmware update I think for this very model. If it fixes the playback issues it is having with bluray movies then I will consider it again.

Hopefully the one coming out in May will be (a) cheaper, and (b) problem-free.

I know it's inevitable that I'll have to go Blu-Ray at some point, but I just want a decent player and there still isn't any it seems.

Isn't it cheaper to buy two separate players?? This player only saves space and connections...

Say far, far away from any Samsung Player. I have a BD-p1200 and can't play Pirates 3, 3:10 to Yuma among others. I have been waiting for a firmware update for several months. I do not have anything agains Blu-ray just Samsung. I also have a A-3, and just got a PS3 so my Samsung model is in the bedroom. Piece of Junk.

Agreed about the PS3. It will be nice to have internal DTS HD MA decoding. But we have no idea if Sony will be able to do this with a firmware upgrade in the future, but with the fast cell processor there's hope.

Samsung Blu-ray player FIRMWARE UPDATE Info

What's really funny is when you page down and read the comments from all of the pissed off consumers who bought various crappy models from Samsung.

I bought the UP-5000 deck from Samsung and while it had great specs...it didn't work worth a damn. The problems ranged from audio dropouts (on SD discs especially), discs not even playing, audio noise, and audio codecs that aren't even supported that are supposed to be.

The firmware 1.0 addressed many of the issues, but the player is still full of problems...so bottom line is I took mine back yesterday for a refund. I picked up a Samsung 1400 Blu Ray deck that I will use along with my old Toshiba A1.

These companies need to stop releasing products that barely even function...and trying to address all the problems with firmware updates...just brutal. In the case of the UP5000 they have already announced that it is being discontinued, but they haven't even gotten the thing to work as advertised yet.

By the way, if you are wondering why I bought the Samsung 1400, it was the only stand alone Blu player out that supported all the audio codecs I wanted...and although it too had it's share of problems when it was released, it appears that firmware updates have fixed the old problems people had. So far the 1400 has been flawless for me.

Generally speaking though, I would be hard pressed to buy another Samsung product.
