Nice, finally something worth buying...NOW I can watch my Ratatouille blu-ray...

EDIT: No, really, with a larger hard drive, the dual shock thing...now, it is worth it. Oh, and it also plays games.

So how much is this 120 or 160 GB hard drive PS3 going to sell for? I imagine it's going to cost more than $499?

Guys, i Purchased the 40 ps3 because i didnt wanna play ps2 titles. but noticed my 40.. got eaten up fast. Because the ps3 Installs a portion of games in the drive in order to be able to play them, wether you got the disc, or a demo.. something I find fustrating when i wanna try something FAST! ...and thats on top of the fact, tat their downloads are kindaslow. then you gotta install for a few mins. so it eats up your space, as temp install space.

So you get the idea, 40 ps3. i rented Turok, and burrowed NFS pro speed.. and downloaded a few themes about 8 trailers, and i had very little space left.

Unlike what im used to in the 360. pop the game in. GO!!.. or Download a demo and then BAM! all while the fiance makes a 15 min call.

I didn't know that Kuco, about the games portion of a game being installed. A little annoying if you just rented a game and want to play it right away.

..I eventually go sick of it, and popped in a 100 gig sata I had laying around. THATS why the make the hd upgradable so easy.

So are Sony and Microsoft in a race to see who can get more SKUS out of the PS3 and 360?

I dont think MS ever cared about skus.. they started with a bunch. now Sony talked alot of crap about the 360... then ultimately accomplishing the exact same thing.

Well if they discontinue the 80GB you can say good-bye to any backwards compatibility for PS2, which will just cause more people to buy PS2 units instead of PS3s, the PS3 has two short comings, cost and lack of worthwhile games.

As for the price drop, if this happens it could bring ruin to BDA and Sony. Why? Sony is quite simple, they will be increasing their losses on the system units sold, and they won’t show a profit margin in the green on this system until Microsoft is ready to replace the 360 most likely. BDA, that’s a little more complicated, the problem is the other primary members, mostly manufactures of Blu-ray stand alone units, are having a difficult enough time competing with the prices Sony who's PS3 and entry level player are $50 lower than theirs, now go and drop the PS3 by $100 that's putting the price well below what they can afford, and will change Sony's Blu-ray market share from 60% to at least 70-80%, leaving 20-30% for the other 4 manufactures, they're liable to tell Sony where they can stick BDA after a stunt like that, they leave BDA will probably also loose other backers from the technology industry, they may still have studio support after that, but who knows, studios may look and conclude that Blu-ray is dependent on the PS3 only then and drop the format then because a game system which loses money just from being sold is not something you want your business sales based on.
