"...my will to post regarding it is deflated due to the out of control trolling and shilling that is running rampant in these forums these days." --Sean
Thanks, Sean. The editor is well aware of the problem, too, and I can assure he is going to be more aggressive than ever in weeding out the trolls and shills. Please don't let them get to you, though. That's the troll's job, to cause grief and to throw every message in the direction of a new bias. When they are successful, they have fulfilled their function in life. Just continue to post normally and ignore them, and we'll continue to ban them as they pop up. Unless they're being paid a whole lot of money to troll and shill, they will eventually give up and go away.

MY bad brother, the dude before me just posted that he CAN'T wait to see it on HDDVD, like it is gonna be an exclusive to that format. Yes I just joined here, and have been dogged repeatedly for saying I rather BR vs HDDVD, I have both. Was just making a statement, not trying to rile anyone up.

I'm interested in "Iron Man" not because I like the comic book or CGI special effects or silly plots but because it stars one of my favorite actors, Robert Downey, Jr. Forget about his legal troubles, Downey's shown his talent in every role from comedy to drama.
Think of the movie embodiments of famous comic-book heroes of the past: First, the charismatic Christopher Reeve as Superman, Michael Keaton and Christian Bale as Batman, Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man, and, especially, Ron Perlman as Hellboy. Then compare them to the bland, colorless performances of Ben Affleck in "Daredevil," Jennifer Garner in "Elektra," or Brandon Routh in "Superman Returns."
I'd say with Downey in it, "Iron Man" has a chance.

Iron Man will be one of the biggest releases of the year.
Yeah... they said that about Daredevil, Elektra, and The Hulk too.... got the box office tickets... but not the TRUE comic tone of the movie (if I'm describing that correctly), unlike Raimi's take on the Spider-man trilogy.
Yes, Robert Downey Jr. is PERFECT for this role (I heard Tom Cruise wanted the role too), I'm just hoping the story won't suck... OR AT LEAST STAY TRUE TO 'COMIC FORM' similar in entertainment as Spider-man.

How is it Marvel's fault if the movie fails?

With a great cast of Robert Downey Jr, Terrence Howard, Gwyneth Paltro and Jeff Bridges this movie is going to rock.
After hearing most of the cast talk about Iron Man durring last years SD Comic Con I don't think this movie is going to pull a Hulk.
Listening to Stan Lee and Robert talk about Iron Man it was clear to see how geeked they were about it and from what I have seen so far it seems to be keeping close to the spirit of the comic.
Will it make a ton of money? Yes
Will it be a huge let down like Spider-Man 3? I think not.

I wonder what made them think of casting Robert Downey Jr. to play the role of an alcoholic playboy.

They said they won't be dealing with Stark's alcoholism in this movie. So wait for the sequel.

Funny Chris^.... And John, you are so right -
He's right up there in the all-time greatest actors! Always seems to -get- so into his particular role. I'm so glad he finally licked his substance problems several years ago. From his acting way back in the early 1980s, Downey, Jr has never wavered, and has produced several outstanding works in movies and television.
