Was it a LASERDISC, perhaps?
Yep... that was it!!! My first LASERDISC cost me $500. A sony brand. I even got suckered into buying the optical cable for it: $125.
I still cry to this day.

I remember seeing my first Laserdisk and thinking how futuristic it looked. I thought it was a new vinyl record :p

The one I am talking about was NOT a laser disc guys, This was like 1981, I don't think laser disc was out yet. These were like big Cartridges that you put into the machine with some type of disc inside them that played with a stylus sorta like a record player. I must WIKI this now dammit!!!! I also remember the quality of the cartridges was OK, like not quite as good as beta, but better than VHS.

Yeah, I'm curious to know too. Try calling Smithsonian, also...
Or Sony's archives.
...with our luck, Hendrix has one, & is now cropping the digicam image for post.

Well, LaserDisc began in 1978.
But, obviously, you are referring to CED "needle vision". Was similar to VHS resolution (about 250 lines), and RCA spent a bundle promoting it. By 1985-86, the company wrote off about $600-$700 MILLION in losses for CED, and dropped the format, since LaserDisc, and especially VHS, were much more popular (and profitable).

Oh NO! I've been a pround LaserDisc owner since 1982, and back then the LD "fans" easily saw the shortcomings of CED, and spoke against it constantly, always recommending the superior LaserDisc instead (425interlaced resolution, etc).

Yep dude, it WAS a CED, I thought the quality was better than vhs but then again in 1981 I was 12 years old so maybe did not have a great eye yet for that type of thing. Now that I am 38 I notice things better I guess, not sure why. I also hear better now.

ALL YOU DID WAS GO THERE FOR YOUR VACATION!
Which must explain why I'm fluent in Tagalog and you don't understand a word.
FYI, if you've ever been to the Philippines (it's clear you haven't and you were caught in a lie), you would know that "Joe" is what American people are commonly called in the Philippines when you don't know their real name. It's roots lie in the "GI Joe" American soldier thing. Jimmy Hendrix even did a song about it called "Hey Joe", which is what many would refer to you as - if you ever visited.
Perhaps you should Google about the country first before attempted to pretend to know anything about it. Just a thought.
